Thursday, November 3rd, 1938 Pursuant to adjournment of October 31st, 1938, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness,Talbert,Henrickson, McCallen. Councilmen absent: None. C. P. Patton' Councilman Talbert informed the Council that he had met with salary members of the Council relative to the salary of Judge Patton and recommended on behalf of the committee that C. P. Patton be made supervisor of buildings and insurance at a salary of $50.00 per month and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the City Attorney was authorized to prepare a resolution making C. P. Patton supervisor of buildings and insurance; salary $50.00 per month; under the supervision of the City Engineer and effective as of November 11 1938; to serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council. Motion put and carried by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Talbert, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Easement of Rights / The Clerk presented and read easement for rights of way by of Way the City of Huntington Beach, a municipal corporation, to the South- west Exploration Company, a corporation, and an agreement between the Southwest Exploration Company and the City of Huntington Beach whereby the City of Huntington Beach is to receive certain cash payments and certain royalties. Whereupon, Councilman Chamness made the following motion: Motion - "Treat the Mayor and City Clerk, in their respective capacities, be authorized and empowered to sign and execute for and on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach, agreement between the Southwest Exploration Company, a corporation, and the City of Huntington Beach, a municipal corporation, including also the separate execution of the 'Easement for Rights of Way' which was the subject matter of the said Agreement by the same officials on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach and that the Mayor be em- powered to deliver the said Agreement and 'Easement for Rights of Way' upon the delivery of the duplicate agreement duly executed by the Southwest Exploration Company together with certified check for $25,000.00 payable to the City of Huntington Beach." Motion seconded by Councilman Henrickson which.when put to vote was carried by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Henrickson, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None. J I 0 a Page 2 - Minutes Nov. 3, 1938 �I 27: U C. %_1 Santa Ana The Clerk read a letter from the Santa Ana Junior College Junior College relative to damage done to memorial hall on the night of the Junior College dance, October 29th, in which the dean of the college assured the City that every. precaution would be taken in the future to safe- guard the property. A check for $10.00 to cover damages and $5.00 for rental of the hall was enclosed. The City Clerk was directed to write the dean and express thanks of the City -Council. Armistice Day The Clerk read a letter from the Orange County Armistice Day parade celebration committee inviting the City Council to enter a car in the parade. The Clerk was directed to inform the committee that the City Council would furnish one car for the parade. Old Time Councilman Talbert made a favorable report on the Old Time dances dances being held in the beach pavilion weekly. Mr. Hallicy C. H. King informed the Council that he had contacted Mr. Hallicy for the purchase of his property for the extension of Frank- fort Street and that the best price he would offer was $1800.00 for the four lots. Mr. King stated that he thought the price too high. Councilman' Talbert stated that he had talked with Mr. Hallicy on the matter and would be,glad to contact him again. Mayor McCallen appoint- ed himself and Mr. Morehouse to call on Mr. Hallicy with a view of reducing the price and said that a report would be made at next meeting of the Council, November 7th. Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, demands approved by the Finance -Committee were ordered paid. Mr. Hosmer Rob't. Hosmer addressed the Council and suggested that a committee be appointed to contact various organizations in the County and invite them to hold dances in the beach pavilion., Matter was referred to the beach and pier committee. Tax Title Lots Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that he had contacted officials of the W.P.A. and arranged to have certain tax title lots cleared through that organization. Richfield Oil Councilman Morehouse called attention to the Richfield Oil Co. Company's improvement in the vicinity of 13th and Palm and suggested that some action be taken to induce the company to move the buildings from that:. location. On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, Council adjourned. City Clerk and ex-officio Clerk AT ' . City Clerk
