MINUTES
City Hall, Huntington Beach, Calif.
Monday, November 7, 1938
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Henrickson, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Minutes On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, minutes for the
month of October were approved as read.
JApplications The City Engineer presented four applications frrom the South -
for permits &
licenses west Exploration Company for permits to drill oil wells westerly
of 23rd Street. The City Clerk presented four applications for
license to operate derricks at same locations. The matter was
held up until next meeting of the City Council.
Neon sign The application of Howard & Smith to erect Neon sign at 207
Main Street was approved on motion by Talbert seconded by
Henrickson.
Auxiliary On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the request of
the American Legion Auxiliary for $20.00 to cover expense of
float at the Armistice Day celebration at Orange was approved.
Application On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the application
of J. W. Brashears for permission to pay derrick license was
approved.
Resolution The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 823, creating the
No. 823
office of building supervisor and, on motion by Henrickson seconded
by Chamness, Resolution No. 823 was passed and adopted by the
following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, Chamness, McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen. None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Building City Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that he had ap-
supervisor
pointed C.P.Patton to the position of building supervisor at a
salary of $50.00 per month beginning November 1, 1938 and asked
for -the approval of the City Council and, on motion by Morehouse
seconded by Talbert, the appointment was approved.
Check of Engineer Overmyer was authorized and directed to make a check
derricks
on idle and operating derricks in the oil field and report to the
license department.
State League of The request of the State League of Municipalities to increase
Munic ipalit ie s
dues of the City of Huntington Beach to $125.00 instead of $90.00
as at present was approved, on motion by Henrickson seconded by
Morehouse.

The Clerk presented and read for the second and last time
Ordinance No. 419 providing for the control and supervision of
the public pier and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson,
Ordinance No. 419 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Henrickson, McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
The Clerk presented annual report covering audit of the City's
records, same was accepted and ordered filed.
The Council referred Ordinance No. 280 to the City Engineer and
City Attorney for their recommendation covering any amendments
they may. deem necessary.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, demands approved by
the finance committee were ordered paid.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse., the Council ad-
journed -until 5:.00 o'clock P.M., Wednesday, November 9, 1938.

Pursuant to adjournment of November 7th, 1938, the City Clerk
appeared at the Council Chamber at 5:00 o'clock P.M. There being
no quorum present, the Clerk adjourned the meeting. until 7:30 P.M.,
Monday, November loth, 1938.
