Councilmen present: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, McCallen. L Councilmen absent: Chamness. Minutes On motion by Morehouse seconded by Henrickson, minutes for the month of November were approved as read. c C. of C. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the request of the Memo. Hall Chamber of Commerce for cancellation of charge of $5.00 for the use of Memorial Hall•for the Orange County Coast Association; December 20th, was .� granted. F>E.Bundy F. E. Bundy addressed the Council and asked that the matter of addressed Council - Main St. straightening out Main Street at its intersection with Hampshire Avenue outside the city limits be taken up with the County Board of Supervisors, that an effort also be made to clean up that portion of Main Street between the above named point and Clay Street. The matter was 'referred to the Streets and Parks Committee with a suggestion that no action be taken until after January ist when the new Board of Supervisors is organized. Press -Telegram The Clerk read a letter from the Press -Telegram asking that the annual edition City advertise in its regular annual edition and, on -motion by Morehouse seconded by Talbert,,rthe City Council allocated the sum of.$140.00 for one -quarter page in the Press -Telegram and the sum'of`$140.00 to the �. Huntington Beach News for their regular annual edition. Marcus Howard Marcus Howard addressed the Council and asked permission to use the requests beach Pav, for beach pavilion to stage a Christmas tree party on the evening of December Christmas party 23rd. Councilman Talbert stated that this was the night for the Old Timers. dance but that he thought it would be agreeable if the party was over and the building cleared by 9 o'clock sharp. The matter was left in the hands of Councilman Talbert to make agreeable arrangements. Bids for moving Engineer Overmyer stated that he had informal bids for moving the Girl Scout cabin Girl Scout cabin from Lake Street to 12th Street as follows: S. E. Talbert $Z0.00 A. D. Moodie - 0.00 and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the work was awarded to A. D. Moodie for a sum not exceeding $40.00. Resolution' The Clerk read Resolution No. 924 authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk No. 824 to execute easement contract with Southwest Exploration Company and, on mot on,by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, Resolution No. 824 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse; Henrickson, Talbert, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Chamness. I Letters to Mr.. On motion by kenrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Clerk was Reid & Mr. March directed to write a letter to William Reid c/o Hancock Oil Company, Long Beach, and Harry March, President Southwest Exploration Company, c/o Signal Oil Bldg., Los Angeles, expressing appreciatiorC of the City Council for the courtesy and consideration shown by both Mr. Reid•and Mr. March to the City Council, to the city and special attorneys and toward the City of Huntington Beach during recent negotiations for oil well drilling between 23rd Street and the westerly city limits. Application:' On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the application of Bessie Restaurant _... Derrick license On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, application for license o to operate derricks known as State No. 13, 14, 15 and 16 by the Southwest Exploration Company was approved. Monthly i The Clerk presented and --read monthly reports of the City Clerk, City reports Treasurer, City Judge, Chief of Police, City Collector and Superintendent of Streets and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, same were accepted and ordered filed. o Opinion of The Clerk presented opinion of special attorney Geo. B. Bush relative Special Atty Bush Ell to certain rights of the City in connection with tideland drilling9 The Clerk was directed to prepare and mail a copy to each of the councilmen. Demands On motion by Talbert seconded by,Henrickson, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Ord. 420 passed The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 420 its second and last reading at this. time. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, Ordinance No. 420 was passed and adopted by the following vote: I ` AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None. Cocktail forks: requested Ord. #280 to be amended Clean-up in oil field The Clerk read a resolution from the Chamber of Commerce in which the City Council was urged to construct seats along the ocean front and build a band stand; that the work be done.jointly by the City and W.P.A. and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was directed to prepare tentative plans and estimate of cost for the above named work-. The Clerk informed the Council that there had been a number of requests for the purchase of two gross of cocktail forks for the Memorial Hall. Councilmen expressed the opinion that the expense was not necessary. No action taken. On motion by 'ienrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Attorney was authorized to prepare an amendment.to Ordinance No.,280, requiring that oil derricks be properly guyed, and submit same to the Council at next meeting. Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that operators in the oil field were cooperating in the clean-up.campaign. On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the Council adjourned.
