MINUTES
City Hall, Huntington Beach,Calif. i
Wednesday, March 8, 1939
Pursuant to adjournment of March 6th, 1939, the City Council
met and was called to order at 10:00 A.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Morehouse,Chamness,Talbert,Henrickson,McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Dry Gas license The Clerk informed the Council that he had not yet written •
the various oil companies relative to ll¢ dry gas license as re-
quested by motion of the Council February 27th for the reason that
the matter was not quite clear in his mind as to the wish of the �=
Council. Following motion'by Talbert: "That the City Council •
rescind its action of February 27th in which the City Attorney and
City Clerk were directed to write the Texas Company, Standard
Gasoline Company, 0. C. Field Corporation and Richfield Oil Company
asking -that they furnish this City with a statement of all dry gas
for the purpose of either drilling or operating oil wells during
the year 1938 and for January and February 1939 and that the matter
be referred back to the oil committee of the City Council for its
further investigation and recommendations to the City Council."

Motion seconded by Chamness, put and carried unanimously.
Contract -
The Clerk presented and read a contract.between the' City of
Koebig & Koebig
Huntington Beach and A. H. Koebig and Adolfn H.-'oebig, Jr., doing

business as Koebig & Koebig, consulting engineers,, 45'0 South Spring.
Street, Los Angeles, in which the City cohtrae;ts.to employ the
above named'firm to compile a complete inventory of the physical
property of, the Southern California Water Company serving the City
of Huntington Beach and territory immediately -adjacent thereto and
other matters looking toward the purchase of the above named com-
pany's property by the City and, on motion by Chamness seconded by
Talbert, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute the

contract on behalf of the City. Motion put and carried the
following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Henrickson,
McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen'L None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Letter -
D. K. Clapp
The Clerk read a letter from D. K. Clapp offering to pay the
City the sum of 4150.00 per year for the first two years, $175.00
per year the next three years and an option of three years at
$200.00 per year for ground lease on the beach front and, on
motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the City Attorney and
Beach and Pier Committee were authorized to prepare a contract
with Mr. Clapp reading in part as follows:

Lease - "Lease for a period of three years, rental $150.00 for the
first, year and $175.00 each for the next two years with an
option for two additional years at $200.00 per year, contract
to be dated as of March 20, 1939•"
Councilman dhamness informed the Council that he would like
Band for pavilion -
Easter week to employ- Clarence Williams and his band to furnish music for
two dances during Easter week and to offer the band.for their
services 6010 of the gross proceeds of the'ddnces, the City taking
40l. All Councilmen expressed themselves as agreeable to this
arrangement.
Garden Club
to The Clerk
read a letter from the
Huntington Beach Garden Club
stage flower
show
asking for free
use of Memorial Hall to stage flower show. -non April
27th and 28th,
1939 and, on motion by
Talbert seconded by Henrickson,
the request was
granted.
Planning
The Mayor
asked that each of the
Councilmen submit a list of
Commission
five names. from
which to select a planning commission at next meeting
of the Council.
On motion
by Henrickson seconded
by Talbert, Council adjourned
until 7:30 P.M., Monday, March 20, 1939.
