November 27, 1939
Pursuant to adjournment of November 22d, 1939, the City
Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor M cCallen.
Councilmen present:?Aorehouse,Chamness,Henriekson,Talbert,PieCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Canvassing ballots This being the date set for examining and canvassing the
of Special Election
Nov.21,1939 ballots cast at the special municipal election held Tuesday, Nov -

ment .ember 21, 1939, the Clerk presented the election returns and the
Council proceeded to canvas the ballots.
The total results of the above named election including
absentee ballots were:

Whereupon the Clerk read the following.Resolution No. 854

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, CANVASSING THE RE-
TURNS OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN
SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, THE 21st DAY OF NOVEMBER,1939•
'WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach,
California, did at a regular meeting of said City Council held on
the 2nd day of October, 1939, adopt Resolution No. 852, ordering,
calling and providing for the holding of a special election on
November 21, 1939, for the purpose of voting upon the proposition
of adoption of a proposed amendment to the Charter of said City of
Huntington Beach for the purpose hereinafter stated, and
'WHEREAS, due notice of the holding of said special election
has heretofore been given at the time and in the manner provided
by law, and
'WHEREAS, this is the time and place provided for the canvassing
of the returns of said special election,
'NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington
Beach, California, do resolve, determine and declare as follows:
'Section 1: (1) That the whole number of votes cast in the
City of Huntington Beach at said special election, including all
absentee votes, is 290.
(2) That.the proposition, designated as "PRO-
POSITION NO. I", voted_upon at said special election was the
following:
"SHALL THE PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT
CREATING A BOARD OF EDUCATION TO_CONSIST
OF FIVE (5) MEMBERS BE ADOPTED?",
(3) That the number of votes given at each
.consolidated voting precinct for and against said Proposition No.
1 was as follows:

received the affirmative votes of a majority of the voters of said City
voting at'said election, and the same carried.
'Section 3: The City Clerk is hereby directed to enter on the
records of the Clty,-Council" a statement of the result of said election
as required by law.
'Section 4: That the City Clerk shall attest and certify to
the passage and adoption of this Resolution by a majority of the votes
of the members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach.
'PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Hunting-
ton Beach, California,,by a vote of more than a majority of all its
members, at a regularly adjourned meeting of said City Council held on
the 27th day of November, 1939.

Fire Letter
er
The Clerk read a letter from the Fire Department thanking the City
' thanks
Council and other members of the city force for the completion of the
new fire hall. Same was ordered filed.
Orange Co.
League
The Clerk read a letter from the Orange County League of Municipal -
ities.calling attention to the regular meeting of the League to be held
the second Thursday in January 1940. The letter was ordered filed.
Petition for
light 'at Balti-
The Clerk read a petition signed by E. S. Allen, 209 Huntington
more & Hunt
ington
Avenue, P.W.Cockrell, 201 Huntington Avenue and W. C. Leland, 205 Hunt-
ington, Avenue asking that a light be installed at the intersection of
Baltimore and Huntington Avenue. The matter was referred to the City

Water in gutter Councilman Morehouse stated that there was complaints about water
on Olive Ave.
running in the gutter along Olive Avenue in the vicinity of 12th Street.
The matter was referred to the Street Committee and to the City
Engineer.
Att'y Petty - The City Attorney was authorized to invite Attorney Petty
Truck.License Ord.

Junior College of
Long Beach -
Pavilion
for the trucking association to appear before the City Council at

theiree6ting Monday, December 4th,,relative to a case now pending
for violation of the City's truck license ordinance.
The matter of furnishing a floor covering for the dance pavilion
was deferred.
The City Engineer was directed to write the Long Beach Junior
College and inform them that Friday nights January 19th and May 3rd
were taken and to suggest to them that they are welcome to use the
pavilion by reservation on any nights other than Friday and Saturday,
also to suggest to them that Memorial Hall is open for reservation.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the Council'
adjourned.
