MINUTES
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, Calif.
May 13, 1940.
Pursuant to adjournment of May 6th, the Council met and was
called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen.
Councilmen absent Chamness.
Reso. #868 - The Clerk read weed Resolution No. 868 and, on motion by +1

Talbert seconded by Morehouse, same was passed and adopted by the Am
following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: Chamness.
Parkings - City Engineer Overmyer stated that in past years it had been
weeds
the practice of the street department to clean the parkings of vacant ^
lots throughout the city but that it was his opinion that this was a
matter for the property owners to attend to. The question was referred
to the City Attorney for report at next meeting of the Council.
Ord. #436 - The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 436, regulating traffic on the
traffic -
lst reading public streets, its first reading.
Amusement The Clerk read a letter from G. W. Tubbs., president of the amuse-

went corporation,requesting license to operate amusement concession on
property at the corner of 3rd and Ocean. The letter stated that approxi-
mately thirty persons would be employed and that it was the intention of `
the management to operate year around amusements. Mr. Tubbs stated that
it would be necessary for him to secure a license before stock in the
company could be sold to the general public. The Mayor appointed Council- •
men Talbert and Grable on a committee to investigate and report their
recommendations at next meeting of the Council.
Planning Commission: The Clerk read a letter from Leo T. Koppl stating that it would

Commission and asked that someone be appointed to take his place. On
motion by Morehouse seconded by Talbert, the resignation of Leo T. Koppl '
as member of the planning commission was accepted and the clerk directed.

appointed
member
of
the Planning Commission for a term of four ,years.
C.J.Elliott -
On
motion
by
Talbert seconded by Morehouse, C. J. Elliott was re -
reappointed

as a member of the Planning Commission for a term of four years.

Council to The 'Clerk informed the Council that members of the Planning Com-
meet with

Commission as soon as convenient.
Demands # On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Request On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the request of the

.r� Chamber of Commerce celebration committee for $300.00 to help defray
•�� expense of a celebration to be held May 30th to June 2d was denied for
the reason that same was not provided for in the budget. The Clerk was
directed to so advise the committee.
Beach Mayor McCallen stated that he and members of the Council met with
frontage
James Lawshe on Friday, May loth and discussed the matter of -leasing a
portion of the beach frontage. On motion by Talbert seconded by Grable,
the city attorney was authorized and directed to prepare a proposal to
lease from the Huntington Beach Company the beach front be_tween(4th St) Main
and 9th Street, same to be submitted to the Huntington Beach Company when
approved by the City Council.
Delinquent Chief of Police Grant stated that he had called on four trucking
wheel -tax
license firms who were delinquent in wheel -tax license and that collection had
been made.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the Council adjourned.
