November 6, 1940.
Pursuant to adjournment of November 4th, the City Council met
and was called to order at 3:00 P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Chamness, Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Attorney F. C. Drumm presented and read a letter containing his
recommendations to the City Council for procedure in the case of
Denio et al vs the City of Huntington Beach, also an estimate of the
probable cost in attorneys' fees and Court costs in the event a new
trial is granted or an appeal taken. Whereupon, the following motion
was made by Councilman Talbert: "That the City Council go on record as
accepting the above named proposal dated November 6, 1940, and that the
City Clerk be directed to notify Attorneys Drumm and Tucker accordingly".
Motion put and carried unanimously.
On motion by Morehouse seconded by Chamness, the surety bond of
J.B.Cail and Grace B. Manner, garbage contractors, was accepted and
ordered filed.
The Clerk read a revised statement of expense and equipment on
sewer farm dated November 6, 1940, by Ray Yakura, the total sum
being $800.00. The matter was taken under advisement until next
meeting of the City Council.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Grable, the salary of the build-
ing supervisor was advanced to class "B" effective as -of November 1,
1940. Motion put and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Chamness, Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Councilman Chamness stated that Andrew Jauman had made a proposi-
tion to collect trash and stated that he believed he could save the
City money. No action was taken by the Council.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the Council adjourned
until 7:30 P.M. Monday, November 18, 1940.
