HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-01-20501 6 11 MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, Calif. ;:Monday,January 20, 1941 Pursuant to adjournment of January 6th, 1941, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: Chamness, Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen. Councilmen absent: None. Bids for. On motion by Morehouse seconded by Chamness, the Clerk was directed . lamp globes to secure informal bids from Bales Electric Company. and McIntosh Electric Company for furnishing lamp globes to the City for the ensuing year; bids to be examined February 3, 1941.' Beach Pay.- On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the Clerk was directed to Vets. of Foreign notify the Veterans of Foreign Wars that they may have use of the beach Wars pavilion Monday, February 24, 1941, for their annual benefit dance; charges to be waived. Memo. Hall - On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, the Orange County Emp- Orange Co. { Employees loyees Association was given permission to use Memorial Hall Friday, Assn. February 14th to hold a dance; charges to be waived. Adv. for bids- On motion by Talbert seconded by Grable, the:,Clerk was directed to Gasoline advertise for bids for furnishing the City with gasoline for the year beginning March 20, 1941. Bids to be opened and examined Monday evening, February 3, 1941. Lease - On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney was dump ground authorized to prepare lease between Bruce Bros. and the City of Hunting- ton Beach covering dump grounds for a period of one year at the rate of .950,00 per month, payable in advance. Term of the lease to be March 2, 1941 to March 2, 1942. Contract - Mayor McCallen stated that he had read the proposed contract of the So.Calif. Water Co. Southern California Water Company for furnishing water for fire hydrants and that., he believed the City Council should meet with representatives of the water company before taking further action and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the Clerk was directed to make an appointment with r representatives of the water company to meet with the City Council at a luncheon in the near future. Demands On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Police Dept. On motion by'Talbert seconded by Chamness, purchase of a new Buick nevr Buick car with an allowance of $500.00 on the used Buick was approved and the clerk directed to present warrant for payment. Ins. on The Clerk was directed to accept $186.00 from the insurance company Hudson covering damage to Police Department Hudson car. 502 Page 2, Jan. 20, 1941 6 Crossing needed Councilman Chamness stated that a crossing at 5th Street and at 5th & Ocean Ocean was badly needed; that it would cost the City approximately t , $140.00 and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney was authorized to make application to the Pacific Electric Railway Company for pedestrian crossing at Fifth Street and to in- form the railway company that the crossing is desired by both the � City and the management of the Huntington Beach Company bathhouse. ?alm trees The matter of removing palm trees from the front of John H. Eader's residence was referred to the_Streets and Parks Committee. )range Co. City Attorney Overacker informed the Council that there jeague meeting would be a meeting of the Orange County League of Municipalities 6:4.5 P.M., dinner in the Masonic Hall basement in Santa Ana on Thursday, January 23rd.
