MINUTES
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, Calif.
Monday, February 17, 1941
Pursuant to adjournment of February 3rd2 1941, the City Council
met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Chamness, Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Gasoline
The Clerk informed the Council that the Union Oil Company, one of '
contract
•
the four companies awarded contracts to furnish the City with gasoline
for a three months period during the ensuing year, had declined to
accept it for less than a year and, on motion by Talbert seconded by
Chamness, the Clerk was directed to write the Shell Oil Company,
Signal Oil Company and the Standard Oil Company to the effect that
their period of supplying gasoline to the•City has been increae,ed
to four months instead of three.
Surety bond
On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the surety bond of
Mary Margaret Gifford was accepted and ordered filed.
Sowest Expm Co.-
On motion by Morehouse seconded by Talbert, the application of
State well 037
Southwest Exploration Company to drill well known as State No. 37
was approved.
Move derrick - On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the application of
application to
Chas. W. Camp to move derrick from its present location on Block
218 to Lots 7 and 8, Block 114, was approved.
Agreement - The Clerk read an agreement between Bruce Bros. and the City of
dumping
ground Huntington Beach leasing to the City to be used as dumping grounds
for trash and rubbish, the following named property:. The northeasterly
j of the N.W.J of the N.W,1 of Section 35, Twp. 5 So.,.Range 11 W.,
S.B.B.& M. for a period of one year at the rate of $50.00 per month
beginning March 2, 1941 and ending March 1, 1942 and, on motion by
Morehouse seconded by Chamness, the Mayor and City Clerk were autho-
rized to execute same on behalf of the City.
Agreement o The Clerk presented and read an agreement between the City of
So.Calif.Water
Co. Huntington Beach and the Southern California Water Company estab-
lishing rates to be charged for fire hydrant,:water service for a ,
period of three years beginning February 17, 1941 and, on motion
by Chamness seconded by Grable, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized
to execute same on behalf of the City.

Letter from The Mayor read a. letter from E. R. Nunn, Huntington Beach,
Mr. Nunn
asking the City to pay him the sum of 075.00 for improvements which
he claims to have placed on Lot 3, Block 1105, Vista Del Mar tract
and, on motion by Grable seconded by Chamness, the Clerk was
directed to write Mr. Nunn and inform him that the City no longer
had any interest in the above named property.

Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, demands approved
by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Music for Councilman Chamness stated that he would like for publicity
pavilion
purposes to employ a "Name" band to furnish music for a dance one
• night.in the near future, that he offer the band $500.00 guarantee
and 75% of the net proceeds above 500.00. The matter was left
in the hands of Mr. Chamness with authority to contact musicians.
Camp Councilman Chamness said that he believed the municipal auto

camp should be extended 400 feet and the work completed before
next season starts. It was unanimously agreed by the Council
that the work be done.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the Council
adjourned.
