Monday, June 16, 1941
Pursuant to adjournment of June 9th, the City Council met +
and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Chamness, Grable, Morehouse, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: Talbert.
Applications:
Eva Matthews - On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the applica-

Company and secure a contract for maintenance and repair of the
dance sign on the dance pavilion and submit same to the City Council.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the Clerk was
directed to write the Buxton Neon Sign and Display and inform them
that the Neon sign has been removed from its location at Main and
Ocean and request that contract for repairs be cancelled as of
June 1, 1941.
gayor McCallen informed the Council that he had reappointed
R. Y. DeBritton and Arthur F. Wilson as members of the Huntington
Beach Planning Commission effective April 24, 1941 for a period of -
four years ending April 24, 1945 and, on motion by Chamness.seconded
by Grable, the appointment was approved by the City Council,

Fireworks- On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the application -of

The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 444, an ordinance establishing
surety bond for the caretaker of the trailer camp, its first read-
ing at this time.
Ord. amending City Attorney Overacker stated that he had prepared an ordi-

nance amending the city building ordinance but that certain changes
and additions were recommended by the City Engineer. The matter
was referred back to the building committee,.the City Engineer and
City Attorney for further changes.
Demands

On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, demands approved
by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Fireworks
Councilman Chamness informed the Council that he had been
July 4th
appointed a committee of one to make recommendations concerning
fireworks display on the evening of July 4th. Mr. Chamness stated
that he believed the spending of five or six hundred dollars for
fireworks at this time is not justified and recommended that fire-

works be discontinued for the year 1941. The recommendation
met with the approval of all members of the Council and -Mr.
Chamness was asked to so notify the Chamber of Commerce.

Lease On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the Mayor
P.E.Ry. Co.
and City Clerk were authorized to execute lease from the Pac-
ific Electric Railway Company covering twelve foot strip of
Pacific Electrid Railway Company's Newport Beach Line right
of way, north side of tracks, south side of Ocean Avenue,
between First and "A" Streets, Huntington Beach.
Meet with Members of the City Council agreed to meet with the
Planning Com.-
Planning Commission at 8:00 o'clock P.M. Monday, July 14,
1941.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, the Council
adjourned.
