HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-07-21me, MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, July 21, 1941 Pursuant to adjournment of July 14,.1941, the City Council met and was called to order at 1:00 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: Chamness, Morehouse, McCallen. Councilmen absent: Talbert, Grable. (Councilman Grable arrived at 1:15 P.. M. ) Correction in minutes The Clerk called attention of the Council to correction of July 14th in minutes of meeting July 14, 1941, copies of the minutes having been mailed each member. Correction accepted. Bond- Star Housemovers, Upon motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, License Bond Inc. of Star Housemovers, Inc., in the amount of $2,000.00,approved as to form by City Attorney Overacker, was accepted. Councilman Grable At this time, 1:15 P.M., Councilman Grable arrived. arrives /American Aircraft Co. The Clerk presented and read letter from American Aircraft building Company regarding disposition of building erected by them on property of the City at the Sewage Disposal Plant. The Mayor appointed Council- men Chamness, Grable and Morehouse a committee of three to determine whether or not the building could be moved and cost of moving the building to the city yard where it could be of use to _the City. Indoor Sports Club- A request in form of letter from LeRoy Rowray, president of Oharges on Memo. HHalll waived the Orange County Chapter of Indoor Sports Club, asking that charges for use of Memorial Hall, Sunday August 10th,be waived was read. On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the request was granted. Anaheim Bulletin - A letter from the Anaheim Bulletin soliciting advertising by Adv. the City of Huntington Beach in its 1941 "Anniversary Number and Industrial Edition's was referred to the Chamber of Commerce. Garbage Contract The Clerk presented and read letter from J. B. Cail, one of assigned to Roy S. Nelson the present holders of the garbage contract of the City, asking permission to assign the contract to Roy S. Nelson. Letters of recommendation from C.A.Thompson, manager of Hynes branch of Bank of America, and from L. J. Peck, president of the First National Bank of Bellflower, were presented by Mr. Nelson and read to the Council. The Mayor informed the Council that transfer of lease had been allowed by the Board of Supervisors of Orange County and permit to operate had been granted by the Orange County Planning Commission. On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, J. B. Cail and Grace B. Minner were given consent of the. City Council to assign garbage contract to Roy S. Nelson, under same terms and conditions and with express proviso that new bond be filed by Mr. ' Nelson. The bond of J..B. Cail and Grace B. Minner to be held until new bond is filed. ` Page 2 - July 21, 1941 em 47 r Orange Coo A letter from Ray H. Overacker, secretary of the Orange County League of Cities League of Cities, was read calling attention to the regular meeting of the League to be held in San Clemente at Sunset Inn, Thursday, July 24th. The secretary was instructed to make reservations for f three from this city. Offer on Tax The Clerk read letter from Charles W..McKnight, 122 Third Street, deeded lots m this city, making. offer of $200.00 cash for purchase of Lots 1 and 2. Block 503,, Vista Del Mar Tract. On motion by Chamness seconded by �- Advo for sale Grable, the City Clerk was authorized to advertise for sale Lots 1 and 2, Block 503, Vista Del Mar Tract, by one insertion in the Hunting- ton Beach News, property to be sold at.7:30 P.M. Monday, August 4th at regular meeting of the City Council, r Ord. 0445 There was some further discussion of Ordinance #445, amending the salary ordinance, but no action was taken. r Wednesday. Councilman Chamness, Chairman of the Beach and Pier Committee and night dances in charge of dances at the pavilion, asked that Wednesday night dances be continued for two more weeks, stating that it was difficult to engage good orchestras willing to take engagements for only one night per week. It was the opinion of the Council that Wednesday night dances be con- tinued for two more weeks. Mayor McCallen commended members of the L committee for the difficult accomplishment of building dance attendance to its present proportions, Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, bills as approved by' the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Lake:`Paik City Engineer Overmyer reported that lighting facilities in Lake Club house o lighting Park Club house were unsatisfactory for card parties. It was agreed that six more overhead light fixtures. would be necessary and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the city engineer was authorized.to in- stall proper lighting fixtures in the Lake Park building.
