Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, California
Wednesday, September 24, 1941
Pursuant to adjournment of September 22d, the City Council
met and was called to order at 1:30 P.M. by_Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Chamness,Grable,Talbert,Morehouse,McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Agreement --Mills Mayor McCallen presented and read anagreement between the
Land & Water Co.
Mills Land and Water Company and the City of Huntington Beach
covering purchase of 49.71 acres more or less, situated within
the city limits and near the easterly boundary of Huntington
Beach. Engineer Overmyer produced a map and explained to the
Council the boundary of the property proposed to be purchased
and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Grable, the Mayor and
City Clerk were authorized to execute the above named agreement
on behalf ,of the . City of Huntington Beach. Motion put and carried
by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Chamness,Grable,Talbe_rt,Morehouse, McCallen.
NOES6 Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Escrow Instr. On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the Mayor, City
Clerk and City Attorney were authorized to sign escrow instruct-
ions under the terms of the above named agreement and deposit a
check for $5,000.00 with the escrow instructions in the Security -
First National Bank of Los Angeles, Huntington Beach branch.
Motion put and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Chamness,Grable,Talbert,Morehouse,McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None. '
New Lease - On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, the City Attorney
Cliff L. King
was authorized to prepare a new lease with Cliff L. King as of
June 1, 1941, covering concession in the beach pavilion at the
rate of $25.00 per month payable in advance, for a period of three
years, it being understood that the new lease is not to be deliver- -
ed until payment in full for past due rent is paid to date.
rrailer Park Councilman Chamness informed the Council that he believed it
improvements
advisable to change the location of the entrance to the trailer
park grounds, also to extend the improvements to the easterly
limits of the City on the beach and, on motion by Chamness sec- .
onded by Talbert, the City Engineer was authorized to prepare
plans, specifications and an estimate covering the cost of improvements.

Automobile On motion by Chamness.seconded by Grable, all bids for fur-
Ins. nishing automobile insurance for the City of Huntington Beach
were rejected except the bid of C. H. King in the amount of

$1,058.36 for'one year providing that the terms of the contract
be extended to three years in the event the above named figure is
reduced materially on account of the extension in time. The Clerk
' was authorized to include a $25.00 deductible collision clause for
the new fire truck;
Salary increase On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, the salary of Matt

Matt Grate was increased to $125.00 per month and his classification

fixed at Class "B" street'laborer, beginning September 15, 1941.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, demand in the amount
of $5,000.00 to apply on purchase price of real property was ordered
paid in accordance with approval of the Finance Committee.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, the Council adjourned.
