HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-11-10r 1 r- MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, November 10, 1941 Pursuant to adjournment of November 7, 1941, the Council met and was called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: Grable, Chamness, Morehouse, McCallen. Councilmen absent: Talbert (Councilman Talbert arrived at 4:05 P.M.) Hotel appli- On motion by Chamness seconded by Grable, application of Ethel cation approved Reynolds.and William Reynolds to operate hotel at 3072 Main Street was approved. Councilman Talbert At this time, 4:05 P.M., Councilman Talbert arrived. arrives At this time the Clerk read Resolution No. 893, A RESOLUTION OF Resolution #893 passed THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, REJECTING rejecting bids - BIDS AND DECLARING AND DETEP1,!1INING THAT IN ITS OPINION CERTAIN WORK MAY Delaware BE PERFORMED MORE ECONOMICALLY BY DAY LABOR AND MATERIAL AND SUPPLIES r NEEDED THEREFOR FURNISHED AT A LOWER PRICE IN OPEN MARKET, and on motion /1 by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, Resolution No. 893 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Grable, Chamness, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen, NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Eng.instructed On motion, by Talbert seconded by Chamness., the Engineer was instruct - to start work - Delaware ed to start immediately the work of raising the grade and improving Dela- Ave. • ware Avenue. Estimate of The Clerk read letter from the City Engineer submitting estimate of cost of im_D. land east cost of proposed improvement of the area lying between First Street and of City Hampshire Avenue and Ocean Avenue and Atlanta Street, the.estimate not including cost of land purchase. The estimate was accepted and submitted to -the City Council as a whole for consideration. Mr. Talbert submitted map and price for proposed purchase of additional land including the re- Y locating of the Pacific Electric Railway. This land is in area adjoining recent' -.purchase from Mills Land and Water Company. Letter from Councilman Talbert submitted and Mayor McCallen read letter from P.E.Ry. Co. Pacific Electric Railway Company regarding city purchase of certain parcel of land, the cost of same and the cost of moving track. Council- man Talbert retained the letter. League mews At this time Mayor McCallen read a.paragraph from the League News Letter Letter, issue of October 1941, outlining municipal finance planning during the defense period. Councilman Grable Councilman Grable was.excused at this time, 4:25 P.M. excused 76 Page 2 -Minutes Nov.101. 1941 Clerk's Statement Request for St. light on York- town east of Hampshire There was some discussion regarding Clerk's statement of expenditures for the month of October with reference to over- drawn accounts. ` Councilman Morehouse presented a request for street ig,ht on Yorktown east of Hampshire. The City Engineer was itructed to find out if Yorktown is a dedicated street east :ampshire. G On motion by Cha-mness seconded by Talbert, the Council adjourned until 7:00 P.M.
