Pursuant to adjournment of the 4:00 o'clock P.M. meeting of Thursday
December 1$th, the Council met and was called to order at 10:30 A.M. by
Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Chamness, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: Grable.
Ord.#448 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 448, prescribing the method of black -
Blackout
out in the City of Huntington Beach, its first reading; as amended.

Ord. #449 0 .�`The, Clerk gave Ordinance No. 449, establishing the salary of the

city judge city.judge, its first reading.
Mr. King The Clerk read a letter from Frank King offering $20.00 for a certain
sheet iron building. The Clerk was directed to notify Mr. King that the.
building is not for sale.
Mr. Overacker The Clerk read a letter from Attorney Overacker calling attention to
alleged error printed in the Press -Telegram relative to his instructions
to prepare amendment to the City Charter. The letter was ordered filed.
• Amendments The Clerk read a letter from Attorney Overacker explaining proposed
to Charter
amendments to the Charter and attached thereto were the proposed amend-
ments. The Clerk was directed to make copies and submit to each of the
councilmen.

Dance at On motion by Morehouse seconded by Talbert, .the Beach and Pier
Pav-A-Lon
12-26-41 Committee was authorized to reopen the dance hall for dancing in the
pavilion for Friday and Saturday nights beginning Friday, December 26, 1941.
Standard The Clerk read application of the Standard Oil Company asking per -
Oil Co.
mission to erect gasoline station at 23rd and Ocean and, on motion by
Chamness seconded by Talbert, the request was granted.
Coordinator The Mayor informed the Council that it was necessary to immediately
appoint a coordinator and an assistant to comply with the provisions,of
a recent ordinance.
Amendment to On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney was
salary ord.
.authorized to preparean amendment to the salary ordinance providing
a salary of $250.00 per month for the coordinator and $50'.00 per month
for his assistant to serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the Council adjourned
until 4:00 o'clock P.M. December 19,' 1941.

Friday, December 19; 1941.
Pursuant to adjournment of the 10:30 A.M. meeting of December
19, 1941, the City Council met and was called to order at 4:00
o'clock P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen present: Chamness,Grable,Talbert,Morehouse, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
The Clerk presented and read, for the first time, Ordinance No.
450, same being an amendment to the salary ordinance and providing
for salary of the coordinator and assistant coordinator.
Mayor McCallen informed the Council that it was now time to
appoint a coordinator and his assistant. The Mayor asked each of
the Council individually as to their opinion of the appointment
of Leland S. Chamness as coordinator; all answered in the affirmative.
Councilman Chamness asked that he be given a few more hours in
which to consider the offer and to prepare his resignation as a
member of the."City Council. This was agreed upon.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Grable; the Council adjourned
until 7:00 o'clock P. M. Friday, December 19, 1941,

Pursuant to adjournment of the 4:00 o'clock P.M. meeting this date,
the City Council met and was called to order at 7:00 o'clock P.M. by
Mayor McCallen. 1
Councilmen present: Chamness, Grable, Morehouse, Talbert, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: None.
Councilman The Clerk presented and read resignation of Councilman Leland S.
Chamness
resigns Chamness, effective this date. Councilman Chamness expressed regrets at
leaving the City Council,but stated that he believed it to be his duty to
accept this type of work in which he could be of full time service in the
present national emergency. The Mayor and each councilman assured Mr.
Chamness that his services on the City Council during his two terms of
office had been highly appreciated and each one offered his full coopera-
tion in the new line of work to be assumed by Mr. Chamness.
On motion by Grable seconded by Talbert, the written resignation of
Councilman Leland S. Chamness was received and accepted with regrets.
Henrickson On motion by Councilman Grable seconded by Councilman Morehouse, Arndt
Appointed
council--L. Henrickson was appointed City Councilman to fill the vacancy created by the
man
resignation of Leland S. Chamness. The term of Councilman Henrickson to be
until the next city general election in the year 1942; motion put and carried
unanimously.

Committee was approved, motion put and carried unanimously.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Grable, the Council adjourned until
10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 20, 1941.
