HomeMy WebLinkAbout1942-01-05IU4 r; Minutes Monthly reports Dept. of Motor Vehicles Drumm & Drumm Unpaid business license Memorial Hall MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, January 5, 1942. The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor McC3allen. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Talbert, Morehouse, McCallen. Councilmen absent: None. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, minutes for the month of December were approved as read. The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police, also the annual report of the Chief of Police and, on motion by Grable seconded by Talbert, same were accepted and ordered filed. The Clerk read a letter from the Department of Motor Vehicles informing the Council that there was a probability that three hundred patrolmen would be appointed in the -State and, if so, Orange County would be given its proportions The Clerk read a letter from Drumm & Drumm relative to the case of Denio et al vs City of Huntington Beach stating that the matter will stand submitted to the court as of January 5, 19142. The letter was ordered filed. The Clerk submitted a list of unpaid business licenses and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the City Attorney was directed to proceed by whatever methods which may be necessary to collect the delinquent license fees. The Clerk was directed to write the Catholic Church and inform them that Memorial Hall was not being used for any purpose other than Civilian Defense and to suggest to them that they might be able to secure the Woman's Club house. Surety Bond On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the surety bond H.A.Harth, Jr. of H. A. Harth, Jr., was accepted and ordered filed. Proposed contract - A proposed contract for furnishing music for dances at the music for Pav-A-Lon pav-A-Lon was presented and referred to the Beach and Pier Committee, for its cons der.Ation and report to the City Council, Demands On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid, Advertising - On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the Council ordered newspaper that no newspaper advertising be contracted for until first approved by the City Council in regular or adjourned session. Board appointed The Mayor informed the Council that he had appointed W. A. for rubber rationing' Greer, Arthur W.' Frost and Mrs. Clara S. Coupland to serve on the r rubber rationing board and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Grable, the appointments were approved and confirmed. Proposed'Amend- The Mayor and Councilmen discussed at some length proposed • ments to Charter amendments to the City Charter as submitted.by the City Attorney. Final decision was deferred to a later date. Richard On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the City Clerk was Beeson "JO directed to write Richard Beeson thanking him for his service with the City and wish him a safe return. Sant & shovels Councilman Henrickson stated that he believed it would be a good on roofs plan to have sand and shovels placed on the roofs of both Memorial Hall and City Hall. On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the Council ad- journed until 10:30 A. M. Tuesday, January 6, 1942. City Clerk and e -officio Clerk of the Cit Council.
