Monday, February 2, 1942.
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to .-order at
7:30 P.M. by the City Clerk.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Talbert, Vorehouse.
` Councilmen absent: McCallen.
Mayor pro-tem On motion by Grable seconded by Talbert, Councilman Morehouse
was appointed mayor pro-tem.
Minutes On motion by Grable seconded by Talbert, minutes for the month of Jan-
uar.'y were approved as read.
' Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk,

City Collector, City Engineer, City Judge and Chief of Police and, on
motion by Grable seconded by Talbert, same were accepted and ordered filed.

Claim - Claim of Denio, Hart, Taubman and Simpson was presented by the

for his opinion and report at next meeting of the City Council.
License- The Clerk read a letter from the Signal Trucking Service, Ltd.,

Co.Ltd. relative to the payment of license:to the City. The letter objected to
payment on the grounds that the trucking company was under the super-
vision of the State Railway Commission. The letter was referred to the
City Attorney with instructions to advise the Signal Trucking Service,
Ltd. in accordance with his opinion in the matter.

Standard Oil - The above prices represent the charge per gallon delivered
gasoline
contract to the City of Huntington Beach and, on motion by Talbert seconded
by Henrickson, the bid of the Standard Oil Company for Standard

gasoline at the rate of $.0947 per gallon was accepted and all
other bids rejected.
Sewer line The Clerk read a letter from Fletcher Dart asking that the City
Council make provisions for a main sewer line in the rear of Lots
.10 and 123, Block 301, Huntington Beach Tract and, on motion by Hen-
rickson seconded by Grable, the city engineer was authorized to
proceed to install an S inch line in the alley of Block 301,

Sewer Rods Engineer Overmyer recommended that the City purchase suffi-
cient sewer rods for the city's use at a cost of approximately
$392.00 and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Grable, the city
controller was authorized to order same.

Applications The Clerk read application for employment by lucille Lewis,
Anne C. Berry and Evelyn M. Overton, same were ordered filed.

Application - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert. the application

of William A. Armstrong to operate the business of selling used
tires at retail at 439 Main Street was approved.
Application - On motion by Grable seconded by Ienrickson, the application

of Jack Thomas to operate service station at 102 Ocean Avenue was
approved.
Water heater On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the application
of H. T. Terry and J. P. Terry to install and operate a water heater
on Lots 19 and 21, Block 111, was approved.
Union Oil Co* - The application of the Union Oil Company to relocate Neon sign

slam at 310 Ocean Avenue was presented and read and, on motion by Henrick-

son seconded by Talbert, the permit was granted subject to removal
immediately upon request of the City Council.
Windsor Club ,.(,On motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the Council gave
its permission for the Windsor Club to use Memorial Hall to stage a
show on the evefttMg of Thursday, February 19, 1942 at the usual
charge o f - $5.00. `
Utilities The Clerk informed the Council that the cost of electricity,

telephone and gas furnished the U.S.Army at 17th Street Park, Lake
Park and on the municipal pier for the month of January was approxi-
mately $129.64. The matter was referred to the coordinator and the
City Clerk with instructions to endeavor to have future accounts taken
care of by the Army instead of the City, this on motion by Talbert
seconded by Grable.

On motion by Talbert seconded by Xenrickson, demands approved
by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Infantile. Councilman Talbert informed the Council that money was needed

quota to finish the quota of Huntington Beach for the treatment of infantile
paralysis and, on motion by Henrickson.seconded by Talbert, the sum of
$100.00 was allocated to be deducted from the Saturday night dance.,
February 7th, 1942.
+Classifica- Councilman Grable stated that it was the desire of the Police Com-

patrol mission to discontinue the classification known as "motor patrol" and
that the officers now doing motor patrol duty be classified as patrolmen.
No action was taken and the matter of decision postponed until next
• meeting of the Council.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the Council adjourned
until 4:00 P. M. Tuesday, February 3, 1942.
