Pursuant to adjournment of June 1, 1942, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent: Grable. Finance Com, The Mayor appointed Councilman kenrickson on the Finance Committee for this date. War Ins. The matter of making application for war insurance was dis- cussed and a decision was deferred until a later date. Neon Sign e On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application J.H.Eader of John H. Eader to erect Neon sign was approved. Sign - Mrs. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the application Westmoreland of Mrs. Westmoreland to erect sign on her building at the municipal camp grounds was approved. Ord. #459 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 459, regulating salaries, its second and final reading at this time and, on motion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes, Ordinance No. 459 was passed and adopted by the following vote: J AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: Grable. Demands On motion by Hawes seconded by Morehouse, demands approved by' the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Appointments The Mayor informed the Council that he had made the following under Ord. 1055 appointments under Ordinance No. 455: Fred T. Grable, member of the Defense Council. Dr. L. F. Whittaker, member of the Defense Council representing the Red Cross. ^- dmember of the Defense Council representing the American Legion. Harry A. Overmyer, Director of Civilian Defense. ~. William Gallienne, Assistant Director of Civilian Defense. John R. Peterson, Director of Education.. Clive Adams, Assistant Director of Education. Under. Ord.04 6 Appointments under Ordinance No. 4.56: Robert Jackson, Chief Warden. ' Dr. R. E. Hawes, Medical Director. George Wheat, Director of Public Utilities. Fred Grable, Deputy Commander. Harry A. Overmyer, Executive Officer. C. R. Furr, Assistant Executive Officer. Art L. Hermann addressed the Council relative to the nuisance of stWater on streetsswwater running in front of his property at 1410 Orange Avenue. The { matter was referred to the Streets and Parks Committee to investigate and report back to the City Oouncil. 4th of July- Wm. Gallienne, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the round r8ouncil and asked that the Chamber of Commerce be authorized to permit a round merry-go-round and other amusements to operate on the block at the corner of Main and Orange July 1st to 6th inclusive and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Morehouse, the request was granted with the provisions that C no license charge be made by the City and that all amusement equipment be moved from the ground on or before July 7th. 6. k 1 Ocean Ave. . On motion by Morehouse seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was repaint authorized to urge the State Road Department to repaint stripes alongOcean strips g P Avenue as soon as possibl6. Hemorial The matter of beautifying a small plot at the corner of Olive and Main to be used as a memorial was referred to the Streets and Park Committee and the City Engineer with authority to proceed with the work. Traffic On motion by Hawes seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney was auth- Ord. orized to amend the traffic ordinance and to eliminate stop signs on Frank- fort Avenue, both east and west at the intersection of Delaware Avenue. This action was taken pursuant to recommendation of Mayor Talbert. Library The Mayor informed the Council that he had reappointed J. S. Denny and Board Sara Whitfield as members of the Library Board to serve for full term and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the appointments were approved. On motion by Hawes seconded by, Morehouse, the Council adjourned until 7.:30 P. M.
