Huntington Beach, California Monday, July 6, 1942 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. 'Minutes On Notion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes, minutes for the month of June were approved as read. Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City T'reasurer;'-City Clerk, Reports City Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police and, on motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, same were accepted and ordered filed. IL- Apnlic .tion On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of the Yiemoria.l Hall American Legion Auxiliary to use Memorial Hall free of charge, Thursday, t_ l e- 1911 Act Bonds = Jack Colvin July 23rd was approved. The Clerk read a letter from Jack Colvin requesting the City to either purchase the 1911 Act Bonds which were on Lots 12-14-16 and 18, Block 812, Wesley Park Tract, for the sum of $205.00 or deed the property to him with- out further cost. On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, the Clerk was directed to write Mr. Colvin to the effect that the City will turn same over to him if he will agree to clean up the lots and put into condition for building purposes. Application - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Jacob Jacob Wilk Wilk for wheel tax license was approved. Concession - On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the application of Lucy Duffy Lucy Duffy to operate concession No. 12 on the beach front was approved. Gasoline On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of W. I. delivery Coplin to operate gasoline and refined oil deliveries was approved. Application - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of B. J. Stevens hotel to operate hotel at 228-21 Main Street was approved. Ord. 0460 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 460, amendment to the salary ordinance, Amendment to salary its second and final reading and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, ord. Ordinance No. 460 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Rubber - The Clerk informed the Council that there was in and around the City Hall approximately 100 yards of rubber matting in use and that upon inquiry he had been advised that this could be replaced with a substitute at approxi mately 45¢ per yard. The matter was taken under consideration by the Council. LJ L 1Y4 Page 2 - Minutes July 6, 1942 r Demands Army canteen Memorial Board Fire Fighting Equipment Rationing Board A demand made by Humphreys Music Company in the amount of $5.77, also a demand by Nichols & Warinner, Inc. in the amount of $305.44 were held up by the Finance Committee for investigation for the reason that charges did not seem to be authorized. Chief of Police Blossom informed the Council that a building had been erected by the Army in the vicinity of Lake Park to be known as an Army Canteen but that the business was being operated by the Harbor Catering Company on a percentage basis. The matter of license was re- ferred to the City Attorney for investigation and report. J. Sherman Denny addressed the Council relative to the erection of a memorial board to carry the names'of Huntington Beach boys serving in the armed forces. The board to be approximately 6 x 18 feet and to carry approximately 240 names and be located near the intersection of Olive and Main Street on vacant property and, on motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the City Council appropriated the sum of not to exceed $40.00 for matefial to construct the same. J On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. On recommendation of Councilman Henrickson the Fire Chief and City Engineer were directed to prepare a list of fire fighting equipment and proceed to make application to the proper governmental authorities for same to be used in Civilian Defense in the City -of Huntington Beach. The matter of furnishing supplies for the local rationing board J was discussed and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the City Council directed that no more supplies be furnished the board by the City of Huntington Beach.
