MINUTES
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, California
1. Monday, July 13, 1942.
Pursuant to adjournment of July 6th, the City Council met and was
called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Talbert,.
Councilmen present; Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
Recess At 7:35 P.M. the Mayor declared a recess for the purpose of meeting
as a Board of Equalization. At 9:35 P. M. the Council was again called to
order; all members present.
On motion b Henrickson seconded b Hawes the annual budget Budget Y Y compiled
by the City Controller was adopted as revised by the City Council.
M1 Demands On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, demands approved by the
Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Delinquent On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the City Attorney was
License
authorized to bring civil action against all those who are delinquent two
years or more in the payment of city licenses. List of delinquents to be
furnished the City Attorney by the collector's office.
Rent in On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the City Collector
arrear
was directed to write all tenants renting city property on the municipal
pier, beach front and otherwise and request that they pay up back rentals
immediately. The collector was directed to furnish a report on results at
next meeting of the City Council.
Crossing ' Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that the Oacific Electric
3rd & Ala.
Railway had given him an estimated cost for installing croseing between
3rd Street and Alabama Avenue in the amount of $1,400,00. Mr. Overmyer
stated that he had asked for a detailed estimate.
Paste Councilman Morehouse stated the conditions around the Lorenzen well
water
where waste water had been allowed to run in the street had been handled
satisfactorily by Mr. Burkett.
Contract - On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the City Attorney was

authorized to prepare a contract between the City of Huntington Beach and
the Chamber of Commerce for the expenditure of.$2,880.00 during the fiscal
year July 1, 1942 to June 30, 1943.
Bond On motion by Morehouse seconded by Renrickson, the bond of Star
House Movers was approved and accepted.
Mrs. West- The Clerk read a letter from "Peulah Westmoreland asking that her
moreland
rent be reduced. The matter was taken under advisement and referred to
Councilman Henrickson and the Beach and Pier Committee for their report at
next meeting of the Council.
Church On motion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes, the request of the Four -
meetings on
r street square Gospel church to hold evening meetings at 7 o'clock P.M. Saturdays,
`' at the southeast corner of Walnut and Main Streets was approved.

Resolution The Clerk read Resolution No. 901, accepting Memorandum of
#901 passed
0 gas tax Agreement for Accumulation of J¢ Gas Tax for Streets of Major
Importance, and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute
same and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, Resolu-
tion No. 901 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Sheppard to speak Attorney Overacker informed the Council that James C. Sheppard,
at Fullerton
9th Regional Director, OCD, would speak at Fullerton at 7 o'clock
P.M., Thursday, July 23rd. That dity officials and their wives are invited
and that the meeting will begin at 6 o'clock P.M. at the Fullerton
new city hall where officials will be shown around the building until
approximately 7 o'clock P.M. Councilmen and others wishing to attend
the meeting are to notify the office of Attorney Overacker not later
than Wednesday noon, July 22d.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the Council adjourned
until 7:30 P.M. Monday, July 27, 1942.

Council Chamber at 7:30 P.M. There being no quorum,.the Clerk ad-
journed the meeting.
