Monday, September 14, 1942

Pursuant to adjournment of September 9th, the City Council met and was
called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Grable, Morehouse, Talbert.
Councilman absent: Henrickson, Hawes.
Meeting -
The Clerk read a letter from the State of California, Governor's
State Bldg.

Office, inviting -the City Council to be present at a meeting in the State
Building, Wednesday, September 16th at 10:30 A.M. The letter was ordered
'
filed.
Complaint -
The Clerk read a complaint signed by G•. B. McIntosh to the effect
Odor from
sewer
that there was a disagreeable odor from Santa Ana outfall sewer and
asking that the City Council take some action. The matter was referred to
-the
Sewage Disposal -Committee.
Application -
The application of Wilshire Oil Company to construct an overhead pipe
denied
line in Block 218 was denied and the Clerk directed to so advise the
Wilshire Oil Company.
P•E.Ry. Co.
On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, the Clerk was directed to
write the Pacific Electric Railway Company in answer to their letter of
'
September 12, 1942, and inform them that it is agreeable to consolidate
leases in accordance with their letter.
Ord. #462 -
The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 462, establishing wages of city employees,
First reading -
its first reading.
The Mayor appointed Councilman Grable on the Finance Committee.
Mothers of
Councilman Morehouse informed the Council that Mothers of the
Armed Forces
asks for
Armed Forces of America had asked that the City make a donation to assist
'' donation
in the purchase of Christmas boxes to be sent members of the Armed Forces
from Huntington Beach. After some discussion, the matter was referred
to Councilman Morehouse and Grable to confer with the Chamber of Commerce.
Demands
On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, demands approved by the
Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Deed -
Attorney Overacker informed the Council that deed covering approximately
10 acres
ten acres to be purchased from the Mills Land and Water Company would be
ready to present to the Council at its next meeting.

Reso. 906
The Clerk read Resolution No. 906, a resolution in support of the
City of Los Angeles asking the State to appropriate *¢ of the 3¢ sales
a
tax to the cities in which same is collected and, on motion by Morehouse
seconded by Grable, Resolution No. 906 was passed and adopted by the
'
following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Grable, Morehouse, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: Henrickson, Hawes.

Damage to Memo. Hall The Clerk reported some damage by fire in the lobby of the

Memorial Hall. He was directed to notify the insurance company
and the clerk and Dr. Hawes were authorized to have the necessary
repairs made.
Mothers of Armed The Clerk read a letter from Mothers of -the Armed Forces of
Forces

America asking that charges be waived for use of Memorial Hall
on August 26th. The Clerk was directed by the Council to cancel
the charges.
Mr. Overacker On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, Attorney Ray H. '
Overacker was appointed as official representative of the City of
Huntington Beach with power to vote at the League of Municipalities,
and City Clerk C. R. Purr was appointed alternate.
Red Cross - Dr. L. F. Whittaker addressed the Council relative to the
Station wagon
need of the Red Cross for an automobile to carry the members from
place to place during their official visits. The matter was re-
ferred to the City Council as a whole and Dr. Whittaker with
instructions to l.ocate.and get the price of a.station wagon in
good condition and submit to the City Council.
On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the Council ad-
journed until 7:30 P. M. Monday, September 21, 1942.
