Catholic Card parties Ord. #464 Red Cross Demands Watch tower MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, November 16, 1942 Pursuant to adjournment of November`2d, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. .The Clerk read a letter from P. L. Wood asking that his rent for pier concession be reduced one half and, on motion by Henrick- son seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney was authorized to amend the contract between the City of Huntington Beach and P. L. Wood to read $10.00 per month beginning as of October 1, 1942, and to continue at that rate until after the pier has been evacuated by the Army. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Wm. Burton to operate restaurant known as 20-30 Cafe was approved. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Lew Stevens for license to conduct the business.of roofing contract- or was approved. The Clerk read a letter from the Press -Telegram asking the City to advertise in the annual edition on November 17th and, on notion T: .by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the City Clerk was authorized to contract for one -eighth page at $75.00. The Clerk read a bid from the Star Housemovers offering to move the Standard Oil Recreation Building to 17th Street park for $970.00. No action was taken by the .Council at the present time. The Clerk was directed to get in touch with the Catholic Priest and see if arrangements can be made for them to hold their card parties .on some other night in the week. This so as to be able to allow the State Guard to use the hall on each Monday evening. The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 464, providing for purchase of United States Savings Bonds, its first reading. The matter of leasing the Suburban Carryall to the Red Cross was discussed and the Clerk was directed to write the Red Cross or otherwise secure the necessary information concerning regulations for furnishing gasoline for the car while in the possession of the Red Cross. On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Councilman Hawes informed the Council that the watch:tower on top of Memorial Hall had been satisfactorily completed. Page 2 - Minutes Nov.16,1942 Mr.Bundy F. E. Bundy addressed the Council and asked that the street 903 running through the old Methodist Camp ground be oiled. He was informed that it was impossible to secure oil for road purposes at this time. Audit The Clerk informed the Council that he had received copy of annual audit by Diehl and Edwards, Certified Public Accountants, dated November 14, 1942, and that one copy was available for the Councilmen to read. One copy was given to Councilman Hawes to read and pass along to other Councilmen. Jack Killian On motion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes, Jack Killian was transferred from the trailer park to the Street Department as • of November 15th at no change in salary. Santa Ana :: Engineer Overmyer stated that he had received a request from "y Cadet Center to use Citythe Santa Ana Cadet Center to use the city's dirt loader for one dirt loader week with the provision that the city be allowed ceiling rental and pay for the city's operator and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the City Engineer was authorized to rent the dirt loader as requested for a period of one week at the ceiling rental plus the salary of operator to be furnished by the City. Priority Engineer Overmyer stated that the City was having difficulty f rating in securing good priority ratings to.enable the purchase of needed supplies. No action was taken by the Council. Memorial The Clerk presented Sworn Statement in Proof of Loss in connect- 0- Hall ion with the fire in Memorial Hall. The statement gave the sum of $1,121.05 as the total estimate of the damage. The Clerk informed the Council that the carpet and settee had been repaired satisfact- orily and that all that now remains is for the insurance companies to refund the City $55.00 covering expense of painting the walls. On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the Clerk was authorized to sign the statement furnished by the insurance companies. Sewage On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the City Engi- Disposal plant J9 neer was authorized to make application for permit and priority to purchase control valve for the Sewage Disposal plant.
