MINUTES
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, California
Monday, December 7, 1942.
The regular meeting of.the City Council was called to order at
8:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
The meeting of the City Council was delayed one hour to allow

the members to attend a bombing raid moving picture conducted by a
member of the Ninth Regional Defense Command.
On motion by Morehouse seconded,by Henrickson, minutes of the City
Council for the month of November were approved as read.
The Clerk read reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City
Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police and, on motion
by Henrickson seconded by Grable, same were accepted and ordered filed.
The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce outlining the
usual annual Christmas.tree party and asked that the City Council appro-
priate the sum of $200.00 to assist in defraying expense and, on motion
by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the request was granted.
On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the application of Lawrence
Boudreaux to operate retail produce store at 126 Main Street was approved.
on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of Chas. A.
SimAa�s ,t6 �opera.te service station at 502 Ocean Avenue was approved.
On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the application of W. A. Weir,
to operate hotel at 106 Ocean Avenue was approved.
On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the application of Southwest
Exploration Company to drill well westerly from 23rd street was approved.

The Clerk read a letter from John:"F.•Burkhart, 223 Main Street, enclos-
ing a check for $$30.00 and offering his bid of $300.00 for the purchase of

Lots 6 and 8, Block 304, Huntington Beach Tract and, on motion by Hawes
seconded by Grable, the matter was referred to the City Attorney to in-
vestigate and report at next meeting of the City Council.
Mayor Talbert stated that a party had offered to pay the sum of $150.00
for a portion of Lots 1 and 2,in Block 601, Knolls Section. It was the
opinion of the Council that the lots should be held for a better price.

Ord.464 - The Clerk presented and read Ordinance No. 464 for the second and
passed
n�= final reading and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, Ordinance
No. 464 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.

League of The Clerk informed the Council that the League of California Cities had

furnished California cities to assist in payment of Civilian Defense expend-
itures. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, same was referred to

the City Engineer and the City Clerk to fill out and return.
Councilman Henrickson stated that a derrick at 19th and Orange was not
properly guyed. Engineer Overmyer stated that•he had notified the owner
in writing.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, demands approved by the
Finance Committee were ordered paid.
On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Council adjourned until 7:30
P.M. Monday, December 21, 1942.
