HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-01-04Y U (13 MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall., Huntington Beach California Monday, January k1943 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by the Clerk. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Councilmen absent* Talbert. Councilman Henrick- On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, Councilman Henrickson was son appointed mayor pro-tem appointed mayor pro-tem, Minutes On motion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes, minutes for the month of December 1942 were approved as read. Monthly Reports The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer., City'Engineer and Building Inspectors, City Collector., City Judgeand Chief of Police and the annual report of the Chief of Police, On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes*'- the reports were accepted and ordered filed. Bltd. stops The Clerk read a letter from the Chief of Police recommending the removal of certain boulevard stop signs. After some discussion the matter was held over until next meeting of the Council, City vs The Clerk read a letter from Rag H. Overacker, City attorney, Pickering reporting completion of case City of Huntington Beach vs Fred Pickering. On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the report was accepted and ordered filed. Termination of The Clerk read a - letter from the Indemnity Insurance Comparty of bond North America with reference to termination of liability bond of Emery N. Newton. On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the City Council agreed to tecept termination of bond. Resolution #909 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No, 909 eancelling,cor- Cancelling weed charges twin weei-charges against city property and, on motion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes, Resolution No. 908 was passed and adopted by the Qlowing vote: AYES: Councilmen: Grable,, Hawes;, Morehou",, Henrickson. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: -Councilmen: Talbert, Standard Oil Co. The Clerk presented drilling bond and agreement of the Standard Oil Company covering their well designated as Huntington Well A-39-, Since no map was included, the Clerk was instructed to notify the Standard 011 Company that permit could not be granted until the necessary map is furnished. Demands On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable,, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid, 2094 Page 2 Minutes Jan. 4, 3943 Mr. Colvin On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the City Clerk was Inst- Lots ructed to write Mr. Jack Colvin asking that he write the Council stating his intent to clean up certain lots which he desires to pur- chase and if this is done, the Council will accept his offer of $75-00 for the four lots -12-14-16-18, Block 812,, Wesley Park tract. Mr. Colvin to deliver bonds No. 27, 28, 29 and 30 for cancellation. Projector Company A letter from Bell & Howe,, suggesting, return of Filmosound for the use of the government was read by the Clerk. Inasmuch as the projector is used extensively by the City for Civilian Defense the letter was ordered filed. Service Men's Mr. Art Anderson addressed the Council in regard to the Service Club - salary of host Men's Club. W.P.A. payment of salary of Mr. Palmer, host at the club, was discontinued January lst. Payment of January salary was made from funds of the U.S.O. The Council believed that the matter should be -handled by the Chamber of Sommerce. On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, Mr. Gallienne, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, was asked to present plan for maintenance of the Service Men's Club. Rationing Councilman Grable reported that Mr. Greer of the Rationing Board Board was asking for more.room and wanted to use the committee room in Memo, rial Hall as their meeting place.. On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, use of the committee room was granted the Rationing Board. Civilian Defense The Co-ordinator of the Civilian Defense made a brief report as to the continuance of Civilian Defense.programs.
