MINUTES
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, California
Monday, April 19, 1943
Pursuant to adjournment of April 5th, 1943, the City Council
met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by the City Clerk.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Morehouse. (Councilman Hawes
arrived at 9:20 P.M.)
Councilmen absent: Talbert.
Henrickson - On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, Councilman Henrck

son was appointed mayor pro-tem.
League of Orange The Clerk announced that the League of Orange County,Cities
Co. Cities
would meet at the Elk's Club, Anaheim, Thursday, April 22d. There
were no reservations.
Application On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, the application
approved .
of J. A. Romacly to operate shoeshine parlor at 111* Main Street
was approved.
OCD Equipment The Clerk presented and read OCD form 501, subject - Alloca-
tion of OCD Protection Equipment and, on motion by Councilman Grable
seconded by Councilman Morehouse, Mayor pro-tem A. L. Henrickson
and Property Officer Harry A. Overmyer were authorized to execute the
agreement on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach. Motion put and
carried unanimously.
Councilman Grable on The Mayor appointed Councilman Grable on the Finance Committee.

the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
The Clerk presented and read a contract between the General
Electric Company, R.E.McIntosh, and the City of Huntington Beach for
furnishing the City with electric light globes for the year beginning
February 1, 1943 and ending February 1, 1944 and, on motion by More-
house seconded by Grable, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized to
execute same on behalf of the City.
The Clerk read a letter from Ted Bartlett, chairman of the enter-
tainment committee of the Windsor Club, asking permission for use of
the Pav-A-Lon to stage a benefit show in the near future and, on motion
by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the request was granted provided the
date set is approved by the City Council. All charges for the use of the
Hall to be waived.

Covering On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse,,the City Controller
for rug
was authorized to purchase and install covering for the rug in Memorial
Hall, main lobby, at a cost.not to exceed $125.00.
Councilman At this time, 9:20 P.M., Councilman Hawes arrived.

The following motion was made by Councilman Grable: "That Harry A.

)\ loan of equipment and supplies from .the Office. of the Civilian Defense
and to distribute said equipment and supplies as directed by the chief
executive officer of the City of Huntington Beach and in accordance with
the regulation outlined in Directive No. 1 of the Office of Civilian
• Defense." Motion seconded by Councilman Morehouse, put and carried
unanimously.
Golf Codrse The Clerk presented and read a petition signed by approximately fifty
citizens asking the City. Council to take over the management and operation
r of the local golf course and presented and read Resolution No. 911, a reso-

lution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach accepting assign-
ment of lease of golf course and authorizing the mayor and city clerk to
execute same and, on motion by Grable seconded by Hawes,, Resolution No. 911
Reso was passed and adopted by the following vote:
°AYES: Councilmen: Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Henrickson.
NOES: Councilmen: None
ABSENT: Councilmen: Talbert.
Mr. Aleridge On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, M. C. Aleridge was employed

as laborer at the golf course under Classification "D" , $175. 00 per month as
of April 16, 1943, to serve during the will and pleasure of the City Council.
