HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-06-2144 MINUTES Council Chamber, Oity Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, June 21, 1943 41 Pursuant to adjournment of June 7th, 1943, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by the Clerk. . Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse. Councilmen absent: Talbert. Morehouse Mayor On motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, Councilman Morehouse pro-tem ► . was appointed mayor pro-tem. • Henrickson on Finance committee The Mayor appointed Councilman Henrickson on the Finance Committee. .� Demands On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. J American Mr. Tr-ichl-er,,Commander of the American Legion, addressed the Council Legion and asked that the City pay the sum of $25.00 for the use of a public address system used on Memorial Day. Members of the Council agreed to ' pay the demand when presented. Carnival The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce asking per- mission to stage a carnival on vacant lots at Orange and Main for a period of one week during the Fourth of July period and that license be waived and, on nation by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the request was d granted with provisions that the carnival be removed after a period not exceeding one week-. State Guard Captain Hopkins of the State Guard addressed the Council and in- vited them to be present at an open meeting in Memorial Hall, 8:00 P. M. Tuesday, June 22d. Application - On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the application of Standard Standard Oil Co. Well A-49 Oil Company to drill well A-49 .was approved. " H.B.Gar(len Club s,. .,.The Clerk read a letter from the H. B. Garden Club asking for free use of the Pav-A-Lon building, both ground and second floors, to stage a Country Fair September 6th, 7th, 8th and 9tn and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the clerk was directed to write the Garden Club and ask if the days could not be changed or if they could use the 7th, 9th and 9th excluding the 6th. Orange County League of cities The Clerk read a letter from the Orange County League of Cities to the effect that the League will meet in Huntington Beach, Golden ' Bear Cafe, 6:45 P.M. Thursday, June 24th. C.E.Dowty The Clerk read a letter from C. E. Dowty offering the City the " sum of $5.00 for the small building used as a power house in the rear of the Police Department and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the matter was referred to Assistant Superintendent of Streets Huddle. . The Clerk presented and read a schedule showing city owned on Bldgs, buildings and proposed fire insurance for the three year period be- ginning August 1, 1943 and, on m tion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Clerk was authorized to apply for fire insurance in accordance with the schedule. Ord.#471- The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 471 its first reading at this time. Councilman Hawes At this time, 8:35 P.M. Councilman Hawes asked to be excused and excused left the Council Chamber. Ord.-#472- - lst reading The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 472 its first reading at this time. Agreement - The Clerk presented and read an agreement between the City and rent pavilion to Geo.Mitchei&eorge Mitchell for rental of the pavilion and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the mayor and clerk were authorized to execute same. Billye an motion by.'Henrickson seconded by Grable, Miss Billye M. Kesterson Kesterson - Trailer park was employed as clerk at the municipal auto camp, salary Class "C" $105.00 per month, to serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council. Resignation - The Clerk presented and read resignation of Harry M. Sheue, chief Mr. Sheue , e hi e f air raid air raid warden. Mr. Sheue stated that the hours he is employed to work warden are from 4:30 P.M. until 1:30 A.M. and that under such working conditions he could not do justice to the work on the Civilian Defense Corps and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the resignation was accepted pending the appointment of someone to succeed Mr. Sheue.
