Tuesday, July 6, 1943.
The regular meeting.of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present; Henrickson, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
Councilman Grable arrived at 9 o'clock P. M.
Councilmen absent; None.
Minutes On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, minutes for the month
of June were approved as read.

Monthly The Clerk read reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City
reports
Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police and, on motion by
Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, same were accepted and ordered filed.
Surety bond On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the surety bond of
Star Housemovers, Inc. was accepted and ordered filed.
Taxes - The Clerk presented and read PETITION FOR CANCELLATION OF TAXES
cancellation
signed by Ted Miller and Ethel M. Miller, man and wife, covering an un-
divided 1758/2500 interest in Blocks 1403 and 1404 of T. J. Watson's Re -
subdivision in the City of Huntington Beach.aad,.on motion by Henrickson
seconded by Hawes, the petition was granted.
Ins. on The Clerk read a letter from C. H. King, insurance agent, stating
pier
that he could secure a $100,000,00 insurance policy covering the municipal
pier on a basis of 2% per annum or $2000.00 annual premium and, on motion
by Hawes seconded by Morehouse, Mr. King was authorized to obtain the ins-
urance in the above named figures.
Demands On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, demands approved by the

Finance Committee were ordered paid.

I unicipal The Clerk read statement of the City Engineer and a letter from
pier - damage.
Surplus Line Adjusting'. Company, 620 So. Hope St., Los Angeles, to the
effect that the sum of $2,066.95 has been allowed for damage *d the muni-
cipal pier caused by storm January 23, 1943, and that after deducting the
$1,000,00 provided by the policy, there will be $1,066.85 due the City and,
on motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the City Engineer was autho-
rized to submit claim in the above named amount in behalf of the City.
Golf Course The Clerk read a letter from the Huntington Beach Company stating
that their lessee, the Standard 0.11 Company, desires to locate an oil
well on the golf course to be known as E-10 located approximately 330 feet
southeasterly along the center line of Wesley Avenue from intersection with
center line of 23rd Street; thence 330 feet southwesterly at right angles
and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the Clerk was directed to
write the Huntington Beach Company and state that this will be satisfactory
with the City of Huntington Beach.

Agnes O'Shea to operate hotel at 804 Ocean Avenue was approved.
Mrs. Allen - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the application

of Mrs. Hazel Allen to operate Malt Shop and Cafe at►509 Ocean

Eva N. Brown -
Hotel
On motion by Hawes seconded by Morehouse, the application of Eva
N. Brown, to operate hotel at 215 Main Street, was approved.
Standard Oil Co.- On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of
Wells
Standard Oil Company to drill wells known as A-45, A-47 and A-48 were
approved.
Councilman Grable arrives At this time, 9 o'clock P.M., Councilman Grable arrived.
Ord. #471 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 471, amending Ordinance 434, its
passed m second and final reading and, on motion by Morehouse seconded by
Salary Hawes, Ordinance No. 471 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Application - On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, application of the South-
st Exp.-
Wells west Exploration Company to drill wells known as State J-5, J-11 and
Well
J-12 were approved subject to the filing of the usual agreement.
Ord.#472 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 472, amending Ordinance No. 467,
passed its second -and final reading and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by
Fire Ins.

Repairs for

Hawes, Ordinance No. 472 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert,
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
The Clerk informed the Council that the total city fire insurance
amounts to $319,000.00, 90% of which amounts to $289,000.00 and that
the present policy expires July 31, 1943, and, on cation by Henrickson
seconded by Hawes, the City Clerk was directed to divide the insurance
as follows: C. H. King one-third and the balance equally divided be-
tween J. K. McDonald, Ila N. Dabney and Huston, Suter and Huston.
On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Clerk was authorized
to order the installation of telephone for Margie Hilton, Assistant Chief
of Aircraft Warning Service, 108 Olive Avenue, same to be paid for by
the City.
On motion by genrickson seconded by19awes, the City Attorney was
authorized to amend the derrick license to include all wells being
operated.
Chief of Police Blossom stated that the police radio receiving
set is now in such condition as to require renewal of the equipment
and that the cost would be approximately $150.00 and, on motion by

0 Hawes seconded by Morehouse, the City Controller was authorized to
purchase a new set.
Gordon Talbert -on motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, fire chief Sargent
fireman was authorized to employ Gordon B. Talbert as an extra fireman during
vacation at a salary of $175.00 per month, Class "B", beginning July
1, 1943.

directed to write the State Park Commission and inform them that the

City Council unanimously agreed that it will serve the best interest of
the State, County and City if the Park Commission will purchase beach
frontage beginning at the easterly city limits and extending easterly
k' rather than by allowing a space of privately owned beach between the city
owned beach and the proposed State Park.

Reserve On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the City.Attorney was

authorized to prepare an ordinance authorizing the City Treasurer to
set up a reserve account in the amount of $10,000.00 to be used for
repair of city streets.
Budget On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the annual budget as
submitted by the City Controller was approved as amended.
On motion by Hawes seconded by.Henrickson, the Council adjourned
