HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-07-19MINUTES Huntington Beach, California Council Chamber, City Halls ` Monday, July 19, 1943 Pursuant to adjournment of July 12th, the City Council met and was called to order at 7: 30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilman Hawes arrived at 7:40 P.M. Councilmen absent: None. Application - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Laundry r John R. Harris to operate laundry at 620 Main Street was approved. AppUcation - On motion by Grable seconded by genrickson, the application of Service Sta. Culbertson Chevrolet Company to operate service station at 220 Ocean was approved. The Mayor appointed Councilman Henrickson on the Finance Committee. Orange County Attorney Overacker informed the Council that the Orange County League of Cities League of Cities will meet at 6:45 P.M. Thursday, July 29th at the K.P. Hall, Tustin, California. Councilman Hawes arrived At this time, 7:40 P.M., Councilman Hawes arrived. ' Bulleton #7 The Clerk read Bulletin No. 7 of the State Director of Civilian Defense to the effect that financial aid is available to cities for the following: A. Emergency communications and control center operations. B. To provide full time paid leadership to the Civilian War Service Division of the county and city War Council, 1 And, on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Mayor was authorized to appoint a committee to check into the matter. The Mayor appointed Hawes, Grable, Overmyer, Furr and Overacker bn the committee to investigate and make recommendations to the City Council. Ord.#473 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 473 covering the licensing of oil 1st reading wells and oil derricks its first reading at this time. Agreement The Clerk read an agreement between the City of Huntington Beach C. of C. and the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by #awes, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to sign same on behalf of the City. i City acreage- The City Attorney presented an executed Agreement between J. I. J . I . Anderso n to drill Anderson and the City of Huntington Beach which contained an option to drill for oil on city acreage near the easterly city limits. The Agree- ment covers a period of four months. The Attorney also submitted a check for rental in the sum of $768.00. 252 Page 2 - Minutes July 19, 1943 Demands On motion by 'kenrickson seconded by Morehouse, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Earl ,Clancy On motion by Hawes seconded by Morehouse, the City Engineer ., Camp grounds was authorized to employ=Earl Clancy, Jr. at the municipal camp ground under Classification "B", salary $110,00 per month, effect- . �. .ive July 15th to September lst. Damage to Std.Oil Engineer Overmyer stated that someone had broken into the Club House ► . Standard Oil Club house purchased by the City and destroyed window Purchase of property Tax Deeded Lots lights and plaster. The Chief of Police and the City Engineer were asked to use their best efforts to prevent further damage to the building. Mayor Talbert submitted a map showing property the city pro - posed to purchase from the Southern Pacific and Pacific Electric Company adjoining the municipal auto camp and extending parallel with the camp for approximately one-half mile and, on motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, the Mayor was authorized to investi- gate further and report back to the City Council. Mayor Talbert stated that he believed it would be a good plan tQ rush proceedings and clear up as many tax deeded lots as possible. The matter was referred to the City Attorney and Chief of Police to work out some plan, if possible, whereby a process server could be employed.
