HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-08-16MINUTES 14a'd Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California ` Monday, August 16, 1943 s Pursuant to adjournment of August 2d, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. Application - The Clerk presented application of George Thomas to reconstruct wooden derrick wooden derrick on Lots 16, 18 and 20, Block 521, and on motion by Grable • seconded by Morehouse, permission was granted provided concrete founda- tion is installed. Motion put,and carried unanimously. Ins. Co. declined to The Clerk read a letter from the Orange County Insurance Agency pay for glasses broken in to the effect that the insurance carrier of Mrs. Barthole's policy accident - declined to pay for glasses belonging to C. H. Ellis broken at an accident July 151 1943. No action was taken by the City Council. Salary -increase - Engineer Overmyer stated that Everett Diekoff has been with the Everette Diekoff City over two years and that his salary is nov., $160.00 per month and that he believed Diekoff should have an increase and, on motion by ` Hawes seconded by Henrickson, Diekoff's salary was advanced to Class "BOO A175.00 per month, beginning August 16, 1943. dater well at Engineer Overmyer stated the water well at'the sewage disposal • sewage plant plant is bringing up a fine sand which is injurious to the plant mach- inery and recommended trading in the present pump for a pump better suited to this type of work. Smith for license to engage in contracting and construction of of houses was approved. Agreement - The Clerk read copy of an agreement between the City of Hunt - War Dept. ington Beach and the War Department covering installation, operation and maintenance of certain communication cables and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the action of the Mayor and Clerk in executing agreement was ratified and approved. Vacation for �Y On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, and upon recommend - Grover Barrows ation of the City Clerk, the vacation of Grover Barrows was waived and full pay for one-half month was allowed. Mr. Tipton - The Clerk informed the Council that Mfg. Tipton, lessee of a build- ing on the municipal pier, had paid $100.00 on a $125.00 account and had asked that $25.00 be waived and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the request was granted. v 258 Page 2 - Minutes Aug.16, 1943 Rehearing - Denio et al Demands Pine trees Attorney Overacker filed with the City Council L.A. 18172, copy of petition for rehearing in the case Denio et al vs City of Huntington Beach. On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, demands ap- proved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Councilman Morehouse reported that the three Dine trees at 402 Alabama sought to be removed by the tenant can be trimmed away from the house and, on motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, the request to have the trees 'removed was denied on account of labor shortage.
