M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent Henrickson:• Minutes On motion by Morehouse, seconded by Hawes, minutes for the y • month of August were approved as read. Bids- The Clerk advised the Council that this was the date set for Chlorinator opening and examining bids for furnishing the City with one MANUAL CONTROL SOLUTION FEED VISIBLE VACUUM TYPE CHLORINATOR, whereupon the z clerk opened and read the following bids: Chemical Equipment Company of California, 223 Center Street, Los Angeles, Calif. A-$1050.00; B-$1150.00; C-$1400.00y plus California sales tax. Everson Manufacturing Company, 1930 West Olympic -Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif. $1200.00. Wallace & Tiernan Sales Corporation, 2311 East 8th Street, Los Angeles, $1552.00. All of the above named bids were on standard form furnished by the City Engineer of the City of Huntington Beach and were accompanied by copies of advertisement for bids and descriptive literature concerning the equipment which they proposed to furnish. On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable all bids were referred to the City Engineer and.to the Sewage Disposal Committee of the City Council V for analysis and their recommendation. Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, reports City Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable same were accepted and ordered filed. Garden Club, The Clerk read a letter from Mrs. Louise Jenkins, president of Merry-go-round the Garden Club asking permission for operating a merry-go-round and other entertainment near the entrance to the municipal pier. The letter stated that representatives of the Pacific Electric Railway were a- greeable to the plan. On motion by Hawes seconded by Morehouse per- mission was granted and license fees waived. The City Council also f agreed to assist in hauling equipment to the Pavalon. C. of C. On motion by-Grable seconded by Hawes, request of the Chamber of Steno. work Commerce to appropriate the sum of $49.00 to help defray expense of r l Y60 Page 2 - Minutes Sept.7, 1 943 stenographic work in connection with the staging of the Country Fair was approved. Surety Bond- On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, surety bond of the Two Macke Elect Co. TWO MACKS ELECTRIC CO. was accepted and ordered filed. Al Miller On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes the license application of Roofs Al Miller to engage in roofing contracting business was approved. r R.8.VanBuskirk On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable the application of R. S. Serv. Sta. Van Buskirk for license to operate service station at 120 Ocean Avenue was approved. Mrs.MollieHardy On recommendation of the Library Board, Mayor Talbert informed reappointed Library the Council that he had reappointed Mrs. Mollie Hardy as a member of Board � the Library Board.for a term of Three (3) years beginning July 1st, 1943; and on motion by Morehouse seconded by Hawes the appointment was ap- proved and ratified. Valtom Oil Co. The application of Valtom Oil Co. to install gasoline tank under Gaso. Tank ground at N E Corner of 21st & Acacia was approved on motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse. Same having first been approved by Fire Chief J. K. Sargent. Gilmore Oil Co. On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes the application of Gilmore Sign Oil Co. to erect Neon Sign at 2nd and Ocean was approved. Memo. of The Clerk presented and read Memorandum.of-Agreement between agreement Sts. of the State of California, Department of Public Works covering accumulation major im- portance of 1/4 cent gas tax for streets of major importance, and the City of f� Huntington Beach, also Resolution No. 916 authorizing the signature of p1 the Mayor and City Clerk on behalf of the City and on motion by Hawes .seconded by Morehouse, Resolution No. 916 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Henrioksoni- Demands On motion by Hawes, seconded by Grable, demands approved by the finance committee were ordered paid. Pump. Sewage On motion by Hawes seconded by;Grable the City Engineer was Displ. Plant authorized to order pump for sewage disposal plant at a cost of ap- proximately $400 and exchange old pump as part payment. Jack Ducommun On recommendation by Engineer Overmyer and on motion by Grable Class D. seconded by Hawes, the salary of Jack Ducommun was increased to class D, $160.00 per month as of September 1st, 1943. Mrs. Jack Killian On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, Mrs. Jack Killian Camp Gd.Help was employed for month of September at the Municipal Camp grounds at a salary of $75.00. Peace Officers Chief of Police Blossom invited City Councilmen and -heads -of Assn. Meeting departments to be guests of Peace Officers Association meeting 6:30 P. M., Wednesday September 15th, Memorial Hall. r W. 1 Page 3 - Minutes Sept.7, 1943 Y U I War Council The City Council agreed that the following city officials should Sacramento Oct.19- attend the Annual meeting of City.Officials at the Sacramento War Council, 20&21 1943 October 19, 20 and 21st with expenses paid by City: Fred T. Grable, Harry Overmyer, D. M. Blossom, Chas. R. Furr, Ray H. Overacker. Offer Rejected On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable the offer by Mr. Burkhart Lots 6-8 B1k.304 of $400 for lots 6 and 8 Block 304 was rejected. -� Recess At this time 9 P. M., the Mayor declared a short recess to go into s executive session. 'Council again called to order at 9:15 P. M-) Councilmen present: Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent : Henriekbori-.�. Denio et, al On motion by Grable, seconded by Morehouse, Mayor Talbert and Attorney Overacker were authorized to call on Denio et al, attorneys and endeavor to effect a compromise settlement of their claim against the City of Huntington Beach, and report back to the City Council. i Reso. No.915 The Clerk read Resolution No. 915 setting the tax rate for Tax rate 1943-44 1943-44, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable Resolution No. 915 II was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: ff@nrickaon*. On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Council adjourned until 7:30 P. M.
