Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, California
Monday, February 7, 1944
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
On motion -by Henrickson seconded,by Hawes, minutes for the month of
January were approved as read.
Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City
reports
Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police and, on motion by
Grable seconded by Morehouse, same were accepted and ordered filed.
Lease #9093 o On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, lease No. 9093 covering
P.E.Ry.Co.
location of a six inch pipe line under the Pacific Electric Railway line at
First Street was approved and the Mayor and Clerk authorized to execute
same on behalf of the City.
Loading The Clerk read a letter from the Pacific Electric Railway Company
Zone
asking that the City paint off a loading zone on the westerly side of Ocean
Avenue between Main Street and Third Street. On motion by Henrickson
seconded -by -Hawes, the matter was referred to the Chief of Police with
directions that he write the Company and ask that the loading zone be
between Fifth Street and Main Street.
Juvenile The Clerk read a -resolution from the American Legion requesting the
delinquency -
City to take some active part in an attempt to reduce juvenile delinquency

reso, in -Huntington Beach. The resolution was referred to the Chief of Police
for his study and recommendation.
Applications: On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the application of
Trucking
Gold Seal Tank Service Company to operate the business of trucking and
cleaning tanks was approved.
Taxi � The application of Mrs. Ruby Fairy Orens to conduct the business of
Mrs. Orens
operating a taxi was ordered held over pending her receipt of an availa-
bility permit.

Halbert and Ida Frye to conduct Art Shop at 1192 Pain Street was approved.
Standard On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, application of the Standard,,"
Oil Co,
Wells Oil Company to drill Huntington B-76, Huntington E-11, Huntington E-14,
Huntington A-59 and Huntington E-12, was approved.
Mr,Robinson Mr. Robinson addressed the Council and asked to know why he is not
given permission -to operate two card tables in the rear of his cafe at
2132 Main Street. There was no action taken by the City Council.,

On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, demands approved by the
Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Mr,Larson
Chief of Police Blossom informed the Council that Mervil Larson had
resigns
resigned from the Police.force effective January 31st.

Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that some of his employees
employees -
salaries
in the Street Department had been offered better pay in other lines and
suggested that the matter of increased salaries be considered. This
was referred to the Streets and Parks Committee for their recommendation.
Vernon
On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, Vernon Wentworth was ad -

vanced to Classification "C", salary $160.00 per month, effective February
1st.
Houses -
Engineer Overmyer stated that there was a movement on to move houses
Seal Beach
from the Seal Beach area which is being taken over by the United States
government to Huntington Beach and that many of the houses will not com-
ply with Huntington Beach ordinances covering construction. No action
was taken by the Council.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the Council adjourned
until 7:30 P.M. Monday, February 21st, 1944.
