Monday, February 21, 1944
Pursuant to adjournment of February 7th, the Council met and was
called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
` Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
Rev.Jos. The Clerk read a letter .from Rev. Jos. R. Morse of 312 Fruit
Morse
Street, Santa Ana, asking permission to use Memorial Hall for evan-
gelistic services on the evenings of March 9th, loth, llth and 12th
and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, permission was granted
with the provisions that a .00 �5 per night charge be made.
x; Palm tree- On motion by Morehouse seconded by Grable, the request of Ray Me-
429 - 7th St.
Cormick to have pi&jm tree removed at 429 - 7th Street was granted, work
to be done under the supervision of C ty,'Enginee.rr~Overmyer.
Claim The Clerk pr4'sented claim of Denio et al against the City of Huntington
Beach, same was referred to the City Attorney and ordered filed.

Eucalyptus On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the City Engineer was autho-
tree to be
removed rized to remove eucalyptus tree from in front of the residence of Dave
Wilson, 909 Main Street, for the reason that the Council believes the tree
constitutes a hazard in stormy weather. A new tree to be -put in its place.
Crash & ,The Clerk read`a letter from Army Air Forces Headquarters, 348th Base
salvage trucks
Headquarters and Air Base Squadron, Sixth Ferrying Group, Ferrying Division,
Air Transport Command, Long Beach Army Air Field, Long Beach, California, (BP)
dated February 16, 1944, requesting.permission to operate crash and salvage
trucks through the City of Huntington Beach, said permission to be issued
for use of U.S.Army vehicles of the Sixth Ferrying Group transporting air-
craft, crashed aircraft.and salvage only and, on motion by Councilman Hen-
rickson seconded by Councilman Hawes, put and carried unanimously, per-
mission was granted by the City Council and the Clerk directed to so inform
the applicants and furnish them with excerpts of the Minutes.
Bid on The Clerk read bid of J. K. McDonald in the amount of $51•90.00 for Lots
Lots
2, 4, 6 and 8 in Block 414, 17th Street section. The letter was accompan-
ied by $50.00 deposit check. The bid was referred to the City Attorney.

The Clerk read a letter from Ray H. Overacker, secretary of the Orange
County League of Cities calling attention to the meeting Thursday evening,

February 24th, American Legion building, corner Elm and Pomona Avenues,
Brea. No action was taken by the Council.
A letter from the State Director of Civilian Defense relative to
California State Citizens Committee on Youth in War Times was read
and ordered filed.
On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Mayor and City Clerk
were authorized to execute Agreement°with Wilshire Oil Company, Inc.
to furnish the City with gasoline for the ensuing year February 15,
1944 to February 14, 1945 at regular tank wagon prices at time of
delivery and at place of .delivery.
The Clerk. read a letter from the California Tree Service asking
permission to trim city trees adjacent to the lines of the Southern
California Edison Company and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by
Hawes, the request was granted with the provisions that all wor$ be
done. under the supervision of the City Engineer.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney
was authorized to prepare a lease covering baseball grounds belong-
ing to the Huntington.Beach Elementary School for a period of -five
years, -
On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the application of Perkins
and Ellis to operate restaurant at 412 Walnut Avenue was approved.
On motion by 4enrickson seconded by Hawes, the Mayor and Clerk
were authorized,to execute purchase agreement with.R. E. McIntosh
to furnish the City with electric light globes February 1, 1944 to
February 1, 1945.
Applications:
Oil wells The Clerk.presented and read application of Huntington State
Huntington State
Co. Company to drill State No. 8, south of Ocean Avenue immediately
south of Pacific Electric railroad between 21st and 22d streets.
Engineer Overmyer testified, under oath, that the application met
with all requirements of Ordinance No. 418 except that it is within
100 feet of an electric railroad and that in his opinion same did not
constitute a menace and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, per-
mission was granted.

The Clerk read application of Huntington State Company to drill
State No. 9 south of Ocean Avenue., immediately south of -the Pacific
Electric railroad between 21st and 22d Streets.. Engineer Overmyer
testified, under oath, that the.application complied with all the
requirements of Ordinance No. 418 except it is within 100 feet of an
electric railroad and that same will not constitute a menace. On
motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, permission to drill State No. 9
was granted.

Application - The Clerk read application of Standard Oil Company for per -
Standard
Oil Co., mission to drill Huntington B-77, Hu ntington E-13, Huntington A-61,
and Huntington A-60 and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes,
permission was granted.
Southwest Exp.Co. The Clerk read application of Southwest Exploration Company to
drill State J-14, State J.15, State j-16 and State J-1.7 and, .on
motion by Grable. seconded by Morehouse, permission was granted.
Demands On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, demands approved by the
. Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Reso.#930 The Clerk read Resolution No. 930 calling a General Municipal
Calling
Election Election to be held Tuesday, April 11, 1944 and, on motion by Hawes
seconded by Morehouse, Resolution No. 930 was passed and adopted by
the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the Council adjourned.
