HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-03-20304 MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, March 20, 1944. i Pursuant to adjournment of March 6th, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30'P. M. by Mayor Talbert. .Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Morehouse, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. APPLICATIONS: On motion by Henrickson seconded'by Hawes, the application of Caramel Corn shop-J.Shurra Justin Shurra to conduct the business ofl-selling Caramel Corn at 124 Main Street was approved, • Don Chalkes - On motion by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the application of Trucking Don Chalker: to operate the business of trucking in the City of Hunt- ington Beach was approved. v Lloyd L.Pitts - On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the application of new & used -` furniture Lloyd L. Pitts to engage in the business of selling used and new furniture at 307 Main Street was approved. Standard Oil Co. On motion'by Grable seconded by Morehouse, the applications of Wells - Hunt.B-79, Hunt.E-17 the Standard Oil Company to drill Huntington B-79 and Huntington E-17 wells were approved. Southwest Exp.Co. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the application of Well -State J-24 the Southwest Exploration Company to drill State J-24 well was approved. Texas Co. - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the City Clerk was Surety bond on Brown Well #10 - authorized to notify the Texas Company that surety bond covering the } cancelled drilling of Brown well #10 is cancelled. C. of C. The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce, J.Sherman Easter Musicale Y. Denny, Chairman of Music and Arts Committee, asking the City'to ap- propriate the sum of $85.50 to defray expense`of -tq,� E}a.ster, Musicale to be given in Memorial Hall Easter Sunday afternoon April 9th and, on Motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the amount was appropriated. Chas.W. Montague g - The Clerk read a letter from Chief of Police Blossom stating patrolman that he had employed Chas. W. Montague as patrolman as of March 15th at a salary of $175,00 per month and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the appointment was approved. y Orange Co.League A letter from Ray H. Overacker,�secretary of the Orange County of Cities League of Cities, stating that the next meeting will be held in the Anaheim Elks' Club, Anaheim, at 6:45 P.M. Thursday evening, March 23rd. Demands On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. 6UD 11 r Page #2, Minutes March 20, 1944 Curfew Attorney Overacker stated that he had talked with the chairman of a ordinance County Committee of six appointed to assist in the preparation of a uniform curfew ordinance. Action on the city ordinance was deferred until next meeting of the City Council. Golf Mayor Talbert stated that the golf -course was being put in shape and course it probably would be ready for play by Saturday, March 25th. Lights on Engineer Overmyer stated that.the Army had given the City permission pier to turn on lights on the pier except that portion occupied by the Army. The Engineer was directed to turn the lights on immediately. Trailer, On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the trailer camp was order - camp Tla.y lsted to be opened on May lst and manager Jack Killian be transferred as of April 15th. Trailers on Chief of Police Blossom stated that he had received complaints to the vacant lots effect that trailers were being placed and used in various parts of the city in violation of city ordinance. After some discussion, the Council agreed that all trailers should be located in the city,trailer camp or other camps provided for that purpose.
