Huntington Beach, California
Monday, June 19, 1944
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P. M.
by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
Application On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Walter G.
Taxis
Van Dyke to operate two additional taxis from.104 Main Street was approved.
Hearing on oil This being the date set by the City Clerk for hearing in the matter of

the Mayor that all notices and other requirements of Ordinance No. 419 had been
complied with and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the application was
approved and permission granted.
The Clerk presented claim of Denio et al for oil royalties, same was
ordered filed and referred to the City Attorney.
The Clerk read a report from Chief Life Guard D. G. Higgins relative to
meeting with the County Board of Supervisors and making application for funds
to assist in furnishing life guards inside and outside Huntington Beach and, on
motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the plan proposed by Mr. Higgins was
approved provided a satisfactory agreement can be worked out with the County of
Orange.
Application to On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of D. R. Young
drill City property
to drill an oil well on the City of Huntington Beach property near the easterly
city.limits was approved provided Mr. Young filed the necessary map with the City
Engineer as provided for in Ordinance No.418.
County League The Clerk informed the Council that the County League of Municipalities
would meet Thursday evening, June 22d at 6:45 P.M. in the dining room of the
Presbyterian church, Laguna Beach. Grable, Blossom and Talbert stated that
they would attend.
Permission
granted to remove
On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, H. M. Gelvin was given per -
tree mission to remove palm tree from Palm Avenue at llth and Palm for the purpose
of installing a garage driveway.
Roads to The Clerk informed the Council that officials of this City were in -

area Friday, June 30, 19114. The Long Beach Advertising and Sales group will
be hosts for the day and all guests are to meet at 12:30 P.M. at Wilmington
Hall, Wilmington, for luncheon after which they will be guided over the area.
The Clerk was directed to notify them that T. B. Talbert, Harry A. Overmyer
and C. R. Furr would be present.

Demands On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Lots 10 & 11, City Attorney Overacker informed the Council that owners of Lots
Blk 901 VDM
10 and 11, B1ock.901, Vista Del Rear Tract, Section 1, had asked per-
mission to pay all taxes and penalties against the property and, on
motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, Arch Riley and Fred Riley,
former owners, were granted permission in accordance with their re-
quest and City Attorney Overacker was directed to prepare the necessary
papers and collect $229.18 taxes and penalties.
Bonds On motion by kenrickson seconded by Bartlett, the City Attorney was
Series "F"
authorized to prepare a resolution authorizing the purchase by the City
of Five $10,000 Series "F", United States bonds, the proceeds to be
used for street repair and improvements and capital.outlay.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the City Treasurer
was authorized to purchase the above named bonds.
Lights from On motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the City Council agreed
ball park to be

to the high school grounds and to pay one-half the electric light cost
for operating the play grounds. The City Engineer was authorized to
proceed with the work.
