Monday, July 3, 1944.
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P. M.

Councilmen Present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
Minutes On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, minutes for the month of June
'. were approved as read.
Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City
reports
Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police and, on motion by
Grable seconded by Bartlett, same were accepted and ordered filed.

C. of C. The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce approving the proposed

"s purchase of beach land situated near the municipal trailer park. Same was
ordered filed.

Sewage
President Hepburn of the
Chamber of Commerce
addressed the Council relative

Midway
Cityo the sewage disposal problem
of Midway City and
other outlying communities.
He stated they were desirous
of connecting with
the.City's system and, on motion

by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, City Engineer Overmyer and City Attorney
Overacker were -authorized to assist the outlying districts as much as their time
will allow in working out a tentative plan.

5th War er Loan The Clerk read a letter from D. E. Burry, chairman of the War Finance

Committee, asking for free use of the Pav-A-Lon Wednesday evening, July 5th for
the purpose of promoting the 5th War for the purpose of promoting the 5th War
Loan drive and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the request was
granted.
• Bulletin The Clerk called the Council's attention to a bulletin from the State
from Stat t eague of Cities to the effect that the State has appropriated the sum of
League t
ten million dollars to assist cities in planning and acquisition to promote
post war public work. Mayor Talber, Attorney Overacker and Councilman Grable
agreed to meet with the executive committee on July 13th to discuss the matter.
Quarterly The quarterly report of Diehl and Company covering audit to March 31, 1944 was
report from
auditors read and ordered filed.
Bid on lots The Clerk read bid of J. K. McDonald in the amount of $550.00 for Lots 1, 3,
1-3-5,Blk 413
7, 5; and �7,in Block 413, 17th Street Section. A check for $50.00 was enclosed.
The bid was referred to the City Attorney for the purpose of clearing title
of same as soon as convenient.

Application On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application of
approved m
W.M.Shaar W. M. Shaar to operate liquor store at 408 Ocean Avenue was approved.
Resoo#943 The Clerk read Resolution No. 943 authorizing the purchase of five
Bonds $10,000 Series "F", United States Bonds and, on motion by Henrickson
seconded by.Hawes, Resolution No. 943 was passed.and adopted by the
following vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Deed On motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the Mayor and Clerk were
Lot 17,B1k 314
authorized to execute deed to Fred C. Hermann and Myrtle V. Hermann
covering Lot 17, Block 314, Huntington Beach Tract, it being the
determination of the City Council that the price of $125.00 for the
above lot is fair and just.
Ins. on pier On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the City Clerk was authorized
ordered
to order insurance policy covering the municipal pier for the year 1944-
1945 from C. H. King, policy to be submitted to the City Council when
received.
Demands On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, demands approved by the
Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Circus Councilman Henrickson stated that games were being played on the circus
gambling
grounds which he believed might be construed as gambling and that teen age
were being allowed to play the games. The matter was referred to the Sec-
retary and President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chief of Police to
investigate.
Mrs. Killian On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, Mrs. Helen Killian was
employed
placed on the payroll, Classification A, $100.00 per month, beginning July
1st and ending September 15th.
Dexter Whitfield On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, Dexter Whitfield was employed
camp ground
under Classification C at,$120.00 per month at the municipal camp grounds
beginning June 30th and)to serve during the pleasure of the City Council.
Salary m On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, Earl L. Clancy, Jr. was
Carl Clancy
advanced from Classification C to Classification D $130.00 per month
effective July 1st.
On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the Council adjourned to 7:30 P.M.
