Monday, July 10, 1944
Pursuant to adjournment of July 3rd, the City Council met and was called
to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None'.
At 7:35 P. M., the Council declared a recess to go into session as
a Board of Equalization.
City Council again called to order at 7:5-0 P. m.

The Clerk read Memorandum of Agreement for Accumulation of J•, Gas
Tax for Str-e-et.s_of Major Importance. Same covering contract between the.
State of California and the City of Huntington Beach, also Resolution No.
944 authorizing the Mayor and.Clerk to execute the above agreement and,
on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, Resolution No. 944 was passed
and adopted by the following vote:
► AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Reso.#945 The- Clerk read Resolution No. 945 cancelling City Taxes on 52J un-.
Cancellation
of City divided interests in Lots 1 to 20, Blocks 1403 and 1404 of T. J. Watson's
taxes
Resubdivision and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, Resolution
No. 945 was passed and adopted by the following vote:,
AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.
Surety bond On motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the surety bond of Star
Housemovers was accepted and ordered filed.

Pay for The Clerk read a letter from Fire Chief Sargent recommending that the
vacations
Fire Dept..following be paid for remaining at work during their annual vacation period
of 194L: J. K. Sargent, C. E. Dowty, L. E. Hill, Leo W. Farwell and William
E. Rardin, and on motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the recommendation
was approved.
�► Campers - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the matter of allowing
17th St. park
campers to use 17th Street Park in return for taking care of property was
taken under advisement.
loth Street - Councilman Henrickson called attention to the bad condition existing on
complaint
noise loth Street where Ben Tunstall's busses are being parked and repaired on the

street. He stated that residents were complaining of the noise caused by
racing motors and loud radios in the middle of the night. The matter was
referred to the City Attorney to check upon legal relief.

APPLICATIONSo On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of the
News Exchange News Exchange, operated by Robert R. Biles, was approved.
Eshleman .On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the application of C. J.
,wheel -tax Eshleman for wheel tax license was approved.
Mrs. Kell On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the application of Mrs.
hotel
Irene Kell to operate Alma's hotel at 2152 Main Street was approved.
Demands On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Purchase of land - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the Council voted
Mills Land & Water
Co. unanimously to complete option and purchase from.Mills Land and
Water Company of parcels four and five in accordance with option
agreement dated September 24, 1941.
Demand - On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, demand in the amount of
covering purchase
$10,000.00 payable to the Security -First National BanIt_for purchase of
property from the Mills Land.and Water Company was ordered paid as
approved by the Finance Committee.
_Budge.te--io After consideration and%sdme amendments and corrections by the City
Council, on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, budget for the year of
.1944-1945, as corrected,.was approved.
Salaries m On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the following classifica-
tions on the pay roll were allowed;
Fred Mauldin, relief park foreman, Classification "C", 185.00
per month.
Joe Hughes, truck driver, Classification."E", $190.00 per month.
Everett Diekoff, motor grader operator, Classification "E",
$190,00 per month.
All effective as of July.1, 1944.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes the. Council adjourned.
