HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-09-18UINUTES COUNCIL CHAMBER, City Hall, Huntington Beach, -California Monday, September 18, 1944 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30.P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. City Attey excused At this time, 7:35 P.M., the City Attorney, on his request, �.. was excused for the evening. Surety bond On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the surety bond of Two Macks Electric Company was accepted and ordered filed. Ord, #483 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 483, regulating the use of public beaches beaches, its second and final reading and,'on motion by Henrickson f seconded by Bartlett, Ordinance No. 483 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Reso. 950 The Clerk read Resolution No. 950 cancelling taxes on Lots 10 ' Cancelling and 11 in Block 901, Vista Del Mar Tract. On motion by Hawes seconded by t axe s Grable, Resolution No. 950 was passed and adopted by the following vote: , AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable,-Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Reso. #951 The Clerk read Resolution No. 951, selling certain real property ' Deed and authorizing deed and, on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, Reso- lution No. 951 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Application On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes,,the�application'of Madge approved . ' Francis to operate curio shop at 116 Main Street was approved. �. Orange County The Clerk informed the Council that the Orange County Coast Asso- ' Coast Ass h ciation would meet September 21st at the Lake,park Club house. State League J The following councilmen and city officials.stated that they will Oct 13th. attend the meetingof the State League ague of Municipalities at the Ambassador hotel Friday, October 13th, from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M: Hawes, Henrickson, Grable, Talbert, Bartlett, Furr, Overacker, Clegg, Gallienne, Blossom, Overmyer, Patton. Request to have tree removed q p The request of Ralph Van De Veer to have tree removed from his property at the intersection of 3rd and Lake on the alley was referred to the Streets and Parks Committee and the City Engineer. Trees E On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was authorized to remove trees as requested at 502 Alabama provided the owners replace them with other trees and repair the sidewalk and curb. 3.4 4 Trim tree at llth & Main Page #2 - Minutes Sept. 18, 1944 On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the City Engineer was authorized to trim and top tree in from of Collins Terry's property y P av-A-Lo n Special permits Standard Oil Co. at llth and main Streets. On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, members of the El Toro r Marine Base were,.,granted permission to use the Pav-A-Lon building for a show and picnic` dinner September 27th. Check for $25.00 for use of l the hall accompanied their application. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application of Standard Oil Company for special permits to drill P. E. 30 and 31 Was granted. Bid of Huston,Suter The Clerk submitted bids of C. H. King in the amount of $1235.23 & Huston accepted - ins.on autos and -Huston;; Suter and Huston in the amount of $1,144.40 covering city Curbing Planning Commission County League of Mun. Knoxville Street crossing owned automobiles for the year beginning September 26, 1944 and ending September 26, 1945 and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the bid of Huston, Suter and Huston was accepted in the amount of $1,144.40 and all other bids rejected. Mayor Talbert stated that he believed it would be a good policy of the Council to assist in installing curbing on certain property where particularly around certain blocks in Vista Del Mar Section the owners agree to build immediately,/and, on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the Council adopted a policy to:agree to install curbing in Blocks 1102 and 1003 on a basis of 50% of the cost to be born by the city and 50, by the property owners provided that homes are definitely to be constructed on the property. This action to be considered as a building emergency matter. On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson,.the Mayor and City Attorney.were authorized to assist -in the matter of reorganizing the Planning Commission. . The following officials stated that they would attend the County League meeting at San Clemente Thursday,. September 28th: Grable, Bartlett, Blossom, Overmyer, Furr, Patton, Gallienne,'Overacker, Henrickson, Talbert. On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes,,the City Engineer was authorized to contact the State Railroad Commission relative to the--= - - -- installation of a crossing at Knoxville Street. Nork on Councilman Henrickson introduced the matter of the City doing urivate property, work on private property in connection with an endeavor to promote emer0 gency building. Councilman Henrickson stated that he believed the City Council should use caution and not set a precedent by doing private work. The City Council took no action but the opinions expressed were that the city would collect for all work so performed.. On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Council adjourned.
