HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-10-02; 445 MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, October 2nd, 1944. The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, #awes, Bartlett, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. Minutes On motion by Henrickson, seconded by Grable, minutes for the month of �. September were approved as read. Pav-A-Lon - The Clerk read a letter from Kermit M. Riggs, 2072 - 7th Street, Hunt - dance hall ington Beach, making application to lease the Pav-A-Lon dance hall. Also a request of George M. Mitchell for a renewal of his contract for the hall, and on motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the matter and letters were referred jj to the Beach and Pier Committee for.their study and recommendation on Monday, October 16th meeting of the Council. Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City Reports Collector, City Judge, City Engineer and Chief of Police, and on motion by 7 Henrickson seconded by Hawes, same were accepted and ordered filed. APPLICATIONS: Real estate On motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the application of David K. license Jones for real estate salesman's license was approved. Feed Store On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application of Mabel Jane Dew for license to operate feed store at 505j Lake Avenue was approved. Bowling alley On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the application of A. C. Murdy to operate Bowling alley at 214 - 5th Street was approved. Store On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the application of George L. Porter to operate store at 214 Main Street was approved. Real Estate On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the application of Gordon H. r Ethington for real estate license as salesman was approved. Oil Burner On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the application of Walter Hanson service for license to conduct the business of oil burner service was approved. Engineer The Clerk read a letter from James F. Jacoby,Field Operation Officer, O.P.A. Overmyer on Ration Boa6#titioning the City Council to permit City Engineer Harry A. Overmyer to serve as O.P.A. board chairman of the local War Price and Rationing Board # $=2.6.7. whereupon the following motion was made by Councilman Grable, "That permission be granted, not to exceed two hours per day, and to serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council." Motion seconded by Councilman Hawes, put and carried unanimously. Vacation - On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, Engineer Overmyer was granted Eng.Overmyer, vacation for one week beginning October 9th. Policeman On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, police officer C. W. Montague's salary was advanced to classification "C" $190.00 per month effective October .. 1st, 1944. Pier'Concessi-ons The -,applications. of S. P. Eberhart for live bait• concession on the pier, and of V. H. Nitzkowski for live bait concession and permit to I sell fisherman°s supplies on the pier were referred to the Beach and Pier Committee. Tree removal The request of Ralph Vanderveer to have tree removed, 421 Lake Avenue, was referred to the Streets and Parks Committee. Post -War The matter -of post war reconstruction referred to in a letter reconstruction from Ralph E. Swing, State Senator; was discussed and Engineer Over- �f myer was asked to prepare a summary of available projects and submit i -to the City Council at next meeting. A hearing is set for Tuesday i October 17th at 10:00 A.M. in the Court House at Santa Ana. City Civilian Chief Life Guard Delbert Higgins was as3red to collect and Medical edical supplies remove to the Elementary School Control center all first aid supplies belonging to the City. Special oil There being no objections, on motion by Henrickson seconded by permit Hawes, the Huntington State Company was granted permission to drill r •State Nos. 16 and 17. Permits on file. < do There being no objections, on motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, Boe Tunstall Company was given permission to erect wooden derrick on Lots 13 and 15, Block 522. Demands On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, demands approved by j the Finance Committee were ordered paid® Comprehensive The,matter of comprehensive insurance as submitted by Huston, Insurance Suter and Huston was discussed. No action. r Annexation The matter of annexing certain territory adjoining the easterly limits of the city was referred to City Attorney Overacker for -advice, Denio et al The Mayor announced that there will be a court hearing on the case of Denio et al vs the City at 10:00 A.M.
