HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-11-06MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, November 6,-1944 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. Minutes On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, minutes for the month of October were approved as read. Golf Course e The Clerk presented and read Bill of Sale covering certain personal Personal property I F property located on the Huntington Beach Municipal Golf Course from M. C. Aleridge to the City of Huntington Beach for the sum of $250.00, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the payment was authori— zed covering the following property: 1 16, x 281 frame building, known as golf shop with furnishings, viz: 1 Glass show case 1 Coca Cola ice box 1 Wall Clock 10 Steel Lockers 1 Reed Settee 1 Lounge 3 Overstuffed chairs 1 Wood burning heating'stove 1 Reed table ~ 2 Wooden tables 1 Work bench 1 Fertilizer Spreader All ground tools and equipment as follows: 1 Power greens mower 1 Shovel ' 1 Crowbar 1 Rake 1 Cu Setter 2001 N inch hose 75' 1 inch hose 1 Pitch fork Together with the following property heretofore in my charge, but owned by the City of Huntington Beach: 1 14 x 21 building, known as Ladies Club room and furnishings,viz: w 1 Lounge, with 4 cushions 1 Circular table 2 card tables 4 Sets window drapes and rods 6 Folding chairs 1 Electric cooking plate Ground equipment and tools as follows: All pipe in place 1 Gas engine booster pump 1 Firwayy mower 10 ! ;Roller sprinklers and stands 25 Fairway sprinklers in place Tool sheds and contents. On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the City Engineer and Chairman Talbert were authorized to paint the buildings on the golf r course and purchase the necessary water hose. Monthly The Clerk read reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City Reports Collector, City Judge and City Engineer and, on motion by Henrickson ` seconded by Hawes, same were accepted and ordered filed. 13 Minutes - ov.6,1944 Page #2 601 ` APPLICATIONS for license: On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application Cecil Bros.of Cecil Brothers Produce Company for license to engage in the business produce of wholesale fruit and produce was accepted. Wright Welding On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of Chas. Co. P. Wright for license to engage in the welding business under the name of Wright Welding Company was accepted. Clarence Love o On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the application of Clarence wheel -tax M. Love for wheel -tax license was accepted. R.M.Kemerling On motion 'by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the.application of R. M: Service station Kemerling for license to operate service station at 502 Ocean was approved. Walter Villines® On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application of Jewelry Walter Villines for license to conduct jewelery repair shop at 115� Main Street was approved. s . ck�elor Neono On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the application of Robert Neon sign W. Bachelor to erect Neon sign at 406 Ocean Avenue was approved. Ray Dolan On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the application of Ray Dolan Neon sign - for license to erect Neon sign at 420 Ocean Avenue was approved. Claim The Clerk presented claim of Denio et al vs the City of Huntington Beach in the amount of 03,631.87. The claim was ordered filed. _y Reso.#951%A- The Clerk read Resolution No. Sale of Lots 9571� uthorizing the sale of Lots 6 and 6 & 9414 g in Block .14 to Fred C. Hermann and, on motion by Grable seconded by Fred fiermann Henrickson, Resolution No. 954was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES.: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Reso.#952 The Clerk read Resolution No. 952 authorizing the sale of Lots 10 and Lots 10 & 12, 312 to A.J. 12 in Block 312 to Arthur J. Johnson and Mary Josephine Johnson,, and on Johnson . motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, resolution No. 952 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Accepting The Clerk read resolution No. 953 accepting deed to certain property Accepting deed from and authorizing the recording of said deed from the County of Orange to the County City of Huntington Beach, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, resolution No. 953 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Agreement - The Clerk presented and read an Agreement dated the first day of Golf Course October, 1944, between the Huntington Beach Company and the City of Hunt- ington Beach granting renewal of a certain license agreement dated October 1,.1939 to the Huntington Beach Community Golf Club, Inc., which agreement was assigned to the City of Huntington Beach on April 5, 1943. ' Said renewal agr.eement:of.October 1, 1944 between the Huntington Beach Company and the City of Huntington Beach to be for a period of ten years from e 352 Page #3 ® Minutes Nov.6', 1944 and after the date above mentioned and, on motion by Councilman Bartlett seconded by Councilman Grable, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized to execute same on behalf of the City of Huntington'Beach. Drainage of golf On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the City Engineer was --r course authorized to prepare map covering the proposed drainage lines on the golf course and connect same with the Holly Sugar Company's drainage line; map to be submitted to the Huntington Beach Company. Audit m The Clerk presented the annual report of Public Certified Account- ants covering audit of the City's books. Same was ordered filed. Mr. Blue o The Clerk read a letter from Casey Blue, Box 1039, Costa Mesa, drainage California, relative to drainage in the vicinity of Huntington Beach. The matter was referred to the City Engineer to`check on and report to the City Council. Bid accepted The Clerk read informal bid of the Culbertson Chevrolet Company Hudson 9 for Police Dept, offering to sell to the City of Huntington Beach a 1942 Hudson 8 Commodore, four door sedan, 121 wheel base, for the total sum of $1,926.21 including sales tax and allowing the sum of $826.21 for trade-in of the Police De- partment's Buick, leaving a balance of $1,100.00, and on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the purchase was authorized. Demands On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. II Jack Killian On motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, Jack Killian was trans- �i� ferred to the Street Department from the trailer park effective November 15th to serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council. Circus The Clerk informed the Council that a circus wanted to operate a circus in Hiintingtoti,_3each in the near future but that no formal appli- cation had been received. No action was taken by the City Council but it was agreed that a license will be issued by the Clerk to be approved later by the City Council. Mr. Sallade On motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, Harry Sallade was placedon the �z regular payroll at a salary of $175.00 per month, effective October 15th; this on recommendation of City Engineer Overmyer. Lease e Crossing The Clerk read lease of the Pacific Electric Company covering cross® P.E.Co. ing of two 6 inch pipe lines near First Street in the City and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, same was accepted and the Mayor and Clerk authorized to execute same on behalf -of the city.
