M. by Mayor Talbert. •.. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Bartlett, Talbert. Councilmen absent: Hawes. Minutes On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, minutes for the month of December were approved as read. Bartlett on Finance The Mayor appointed Councilman Bartlett on the Finance Committee. Committee Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, & Annual City Collector., City Judge, City Engineer, Chief of Police and annual Reports reports of the Chief Life Guard and Chief of Police, and on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, same were accepted and ordered filed. Golf Course Mayor Talbert informed the Council that considerable damage is y being done to the Golf Course by sooeone driving automobiles over the course and greens, and on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the Council authorized the posting of reward sign reading as follows: "A $50.00 REWARD WILL BE PAID TO THE PERSON FURNISHING INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF ANY PERSON OR PERSONS DAMAGING THE PROPERTY'OF'THE CITY GOLF COURSE." Contractor® On motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the application of Bailey Glenn Bailey for building contractors license was approved. Shoe shop - On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Stanfield C. E. Stanfield for license to operate shoe,and repair shop at 311 5th Street was approved. Soda Fountain - On motion by.Henricksoh seconded by Grable, the application of Cr4Itton & Me ubbins Chester E. Critton and,Jack E. McCubbins for license to operate'soda fountain and confectionery at 126 Main Street was approved. Plastering On motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the application of contractor m �. Staples John E. Staples for license to operate as plastering contractor was approved. Cafe On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the application of Bachelor :- Robert W. Mitchell for license to,operate garage and general shop service at 610-Main Street was approved.. On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the application of Glenn T. Dodge for license to conduct the business of commer- cial photography at 707 13th Street was approved. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Standard Plumbing Company by Ebert E.- Smith for plumbing con- tractor s license was approved and his surety bond accepted sub- ject to the approval of .the City Attorney. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, application of Southwest Exploration Company for permit to drill State J-29 was approved.. Southwest Exp. On motion by Bartlett seconded by•Grable, the application State J=30 of Southwest Exploration Company for permit to drill State J-30 was approved. State J-34 On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application of Southwest Exploration Company for permit to drill State J-34 was approved. Standard Oil Co. Hunt. Bm95 On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the application of Standard Oil Company of California to drill -Huntington B-85 was approved. Huntington State Co. On.motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the application State #3 f. of Huntington State Company for permit to drill State No. 3 was approved. P.L.Wood The Clerk read a letter from P. L. Wood asking for renewal renew lease of pier concession lease for a period of three. years beginning` December 31, 1944, and on motion by Bartlett -seconded by Henrick- son, the City Attorney was authorized to prepare renewal of the - contract. Mr. F'erebee The Clerk read a letter from -'City Engineer Overmyer recommend - vacation ing that F.. F. Ferebee be allowed one week's vacation and one week with full pay during the year 1944-, and on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the request was granted. Bid Lot 22 Blk 413 The Clerk read bid of J. K. McDonald in -the amount of $110.00 J. K.McDonald for Lot 22 in. Block 413, 17th Street Section. A $25.00 check accom- panied.the bid, and on motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the bid was accepted and the City Attorney authorized to prepare deed and resolution. H. B. Employees The.Clerk-read a letter from the Huntington Beach Employees• - Association Association, D. G. Higgins president pro tem,•petitioning the City Council to make application to the State of California for City's participation in the State Employees' Retirement .System.;. and.:on I. A, mo:tion:.:.;by_..Grable _ seconded by H:-enrickson, the Clerk was authorized Page #3 - Minutes January 2, 1945 to prepare the necessary information as provided in Section 59-B of the State Employees'Retirement Act and forward same to the State of California State Employees' Retirement System for further infor- mation concerning procedure and costs. Bid - Lot 22, The Clerk read bid of J. K. McDonald in the sum of $100.00 Blk 404 for Lot 22, except south,three feet, in Block 404, Main Street Section. A check of $10.00 accompanied the bid, and on motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, the bid was acce.pted.and the City Attorney authorized to prepare resolution and deed. Outfall Sewer The Clerk read a letter from Robert H. Boney concerning'a .joint outfall sewer negotiation referring to a letter written to the County Health Department December 4, 1944. The Clerk was directed to have copies of the last named letter made for the City Council and City Attorney. } P.E.Ry Co. The Clerk presented and read renewal of lease contract with the renewal of lease Pacific Electric Railway for a period of one year covering a rectangu- larly shaped parcel of land near the trailer camp, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized to execute same on behalf of the City. Mr. Wheat The Clerk read a letter from George J. Wheat stating that he had recently purchased Blocks 411, 511 and 512 and that it is his intention to clear same and erect new homes as soon as possible. The letter was ordered filed. Bids - On motion by Henrickson seconded by'Grable, the Clerk as autho- gasoline \ ,. rized to advertise for bids for furnishing the City with gasoline for the period February 15, 1945 to February 15, 1946; bids to be opened and examined at 7:30 P.M. Monday, February 5th, 1945. Demands On motion by Grable seconded by'Bartlett, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Treesto be Councilman Grable recommended that the City remove trees at the. removed following locations: front of L. E. Mitchell's residence, llth and Main Streets. -On the side of Mr. Reeves property on Springfield Street near Main and in front of the Sam Clapp property on Geneva. Street between Alabama and Huntington,'and on motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was authorized to remove the trees. .1 ,On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the Council adjourned.
