City Clerk and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council. MINUTES Council dhamber, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, March 19, 1945 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by the City Clerk. Councilmen present; Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett. Councilmen absent: Talbert. Hawes - Mayor pro-tem On motion b Henrickson seconded b Bartlett Councilman Hawes Y Y , was appointed mayor pro-tem. Pav-A-Lon - George Mitchell addressed the Council and asked that a contract Mitchell asks for renewal of be prepared renewing his lease on the Pav-A-Lon for a period of one contract year at the rate of $35.00 per night. The Beach and Pier Committee recommended that the request be granted and, on motion by Grable seconded by Henrickson, the City Attorney was authorized to prepare a new lease for a period of one year beginning with the expiration of the present lease at the rate of $35.00 per night. Bid on Lots The Clerk read bid of Louis or Anna F. Koester, 1866 Lundley 12 & 13, Blk 202 V.D.M. Avenue, Pasadena, California, in the amount of $$300.00 for Lots 12 and 13 in Block 202, Vista Del Mar Tract. Cash in the amount of $$25.00 accompanied the bid. The bid was referred to the City Attorney. Page #2 - Minutes March 19, 1945 Bid on Lots_ The Clerk read bid, of Clare E. and Regina Bean, 1894 30,31 & 32 Blk 202 Lundley Avenue, Pasadena, California, in the amount of $375.00 VDM for Lots 30, 31 and 32 in Block 202, Vista Del Mar Tract. Cash in the amount of 037.50 accompanied the bid. The ,bid was referred to the city attorney. Memo. Hall - At the request of,Joe Axton, Scout Master Troop No. 1, and Boy Scouts on motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the Boy Scouts were -given permission to use Memorial Hall, without charge, Thursday, April 12th, 1945. Orange Co. The Clerk informed the Council that the Orange County League League of Cities of Cities will meet Thursday evening, March 22d, in La Habra. There • were no reservations by city officials. APPLICATIONS: On motion by Bartlett seconded by Henrickson, the application of Children's shop Mrs. Lois Kitts and Mrs. Icie Williams for license to operate children's shop at 119 Main Street was approved. Roofing On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the application of W. J. contractor Benbow for license to conduct the business of roofing contractor was 4 approved. Neon Signs On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable,, the application of Brooks Sign and Display Company for permission to conduct the business of servicing Neon signs was approved. Garage &'re- On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the application for pair shop license of W. J. Burnes to operate a garage and repair shop at 610 Main Street was approved. Plan ning The Clerk read resignation of Otto Culbertson from the Planning Commission Commission; and on motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, same was accepted and referred to the Mayor to appoint someone to fill the vacancy. Memo. Hall On motion by Bartlett seconded by Henrickson, Paradise Parlor Native .sons No. 282, Native Sons of the Golden West, was given permission to use • Memorial Hall Friday evening, April 13, 1945, at the usual charge of ' $5.00. Reward signs On motion by Grable seconded by Bartlett, the city engineer was authorized to secure and post $50.00 reward signs in all rest rooms and under the Pav-A-Lon and on the pier. Pav-A-Lon On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the rate of rental rental for use of the Pav-A-Lon was increased to $35.00 per night with the provision that the city is to stand all clean-up charges and provide 1 a caretaker at all times during which the hall is being used. .s i Oda 3't U Page f3 - Minutes March 19, 1945 Sign - C.L.King Engineer Overmyer submitted a•sketch of a sign proposed to be.placed over the stand of C. L. King's concession in the Pav-A-Lon. It was the opinion that the sign would be too large and the matter was referred back to the Beach and Pier Committee to investigate and bring back their recommendations. Sewage disposal Councilman Hawes stated that there was some trouble in the plant operation of the sewage disposal plant trait that he would in- vestigate farther and report back. Furniture The City Clerk was authorized to have the overstuffed furniture repaired at the Pav-A-Lon and Memorial Hall repaired. It was suggested that the matter be taken up with the A-1 Furniture Company of Long Beach. Non-caucasian The matter of resident occupancy by non-caucasian races races - within the City of Huntington Beach was discussed. The matter of passing a city ordinance and other necessary action was taken under advisement by the City Council. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the Council adjourned.
