Monday, May 21, 1945
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
I.•
7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: None.
Taxi -
The Clerk read a letter from J. W. Baker suggesting an ordinance

regulating taxi cabs, also an application for license to operate taxi
cab in Huntington Beach, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the
matter of preparing an ordinance was referred to the City Attorney
and the license application was approved.
Bids opened
This being the time set for opening and examining bids for sale

of the Standard Oil Company's Recreation building, the'Clerk read bid
of the Cleveland Wrecking Company for $150.00, also bid of Midway City
Post #555, American Legion, in the amount of $$500.00. A check for

$500.00 accompanied the last named bid, and on motion by Grable.seconded
by Hawes, the matter of selling the building was taken under advisement
until next meeting of the City Council.

Kermit Riggs addressed the Council in regard to the erection of

in front of the building. The matter was referred to the Beach and
Pier Committee.
Pav-A=Lon v The Clerk read contract between the City and Kermit Riggs cover-

liggs ing the Pav-A-Lon for dances Wednesday and Sunday nights. After some
discussion, the contract was referred back to the City Attorney to pro- y
vide a rental of $50.00 per night and to provide for the City to furnish
a caretaker to open the hall and close the hall and look after the •
equipment during the dance period. Also the City to do all janitor
work and furnish the necessary janitor supplies.

contract authorized to prepare an amendment to the contract between the City and
George M. Mitchell establishing the rental at $50.00 per night with the
provision that the City take care of the maintenance of the hall in-
cluding the janitor service June 8, 1945 to September 1, 1945.

authorized to rewrite the contract between the City and Kermit Riggs on
the same basis as above mentioned. Motion put and carried; Councilman CY
Hawes voting "No" and explaining that he did so because of the Sunday °
night dancing only. i

Taxi - Mr. Van Dyke, operator of the Huntington Beach Cab Service addressed

the Council and stated that the use of Butane by taxi cabs comes under the
regulations of the O.D.T. He referred to the application for license by
J.W.Baker and informed the Council that he believed no arrangements had
been made with the U. S. Government to operate a taxi. No action was
taken by the City Council.

authorized to sign "Owner's Consent" submitted by the Standard Oil Company
for the purpose of removing certain personal property from the old airplane
building owned by the City.
Mrs. Francis The Clerk read a letter from Mrs. Madge Francis asking for lease on
concession the first building on the right side of the pier located opposite the life-
guard station for the purpose of Souvenir and Novelty Concession for the
four month period, June 1st to October 1st, with option to renew at
$30.00 per month. The matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee

Council.
Orange Co.
The Clerk read a letter from Secretary Overacker of the Orange County
League of

League of Cities calling attention of the Council to a meeting of the League
to be held at Memorial Hall May 24th.
Anderson-
On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the matter of the Anderson -

Young oil lease contract was referred to the City Attorney with authority
to request payment of all back rental or secure quitclaim on the property.

sale On motion by Henricksen seconded by Bartlett, the City Clerk was autho-

rized to advertise sale of cleared lots, also portions of lots belonging to
the City and located along Frankfort street, auction to be held at 7:30 P.M.
Monday, June l8th. The Clerk was directed to notify owners of adjacent property
along Frankfort Street.
Bid on lot
- The Clerk read bid of Carl S. Evanson in the amount of $200.00 for a-

ment for sale.
Applications ° On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the application of I. D. Walling -

Hearing a This being the date set for hearing on application for oil well

asked if there were any objections. The Clerk informed the Council
that legal notices had been posted and published and that no object-
ions had been received, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes,
the application was approved.
Agreement The Clerk read Agreement between the City of Huntington Beach

and P. L. Wood covering rental of a pier concession, and on motion
by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized
to execute same on behalf of the City.

and Bruce Bros. covering rental of trash dump ground, and on motion
by Grable seconded by Hawes, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized to
execute same on behalf of the City.
Ord.#495 e The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 495, regulating the construction
