M. by the Clerk. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett. Councilmen absent: Talbert. (Councilman Talbert arrived at 7:50 P.M.) Henrickson - �layor pro-tem On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, Councilman Henrickson was appointed mayor pro-tem. APPLICATIONS: On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the application of Yankee- �ircus Patterson Circus to stage show on Block 303, June 21st, was approved. veel Refrigeration On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the application of Neel Refrigeration Service Company for license to install and service re- frigeration was approved. seo. Furr Furr to cut curb for driveway on Magnolia Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets was approved. • John Wright & The Clerk read a letter from Chief Lifeguard D. G. Higgins asking ?red Cuff - Lifeguards permission to employ John Wright as lifeguard at Surfside starting June 15th and Fred Cuff as lifeguard starting June 19th, each at $125.00 per month, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, permission was granted. Lifeguard equip. Chief Lifeguard D. G. Higgins recommended that the City Council 3.t Surfside & Sunset Beach sell to the County of Orange the lifeguard stations, can buoys, first aid and other life saving equipment at Surfside and Sunset Beach so that they can be covered by fire, damage or theft by County ordinance, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the City Clerk and Mayor were authorized to comply with the suggestion. There being no objections on file and none received verbally, on Well State 2311 motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Huntington State Company was granted permission to drill "State 2311. Demands On motion by Bartlett seconded by Grable, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Flameproof The Clerk read a letter from Calairco Flameproofing Company offering fabrics in Bldgs. to flameproof fabrics in the Pav-A-Lon overhead and around the orchestra pit for the sum of $340.00, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the work was authorized. On motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the City Clerk was authorized to secure price of flameproofing the curtains on the stage at Memorial • Hall and to proceed with the work at a cost not to exceed $200.00. y Sale of Tax This being the date set for sale at auction of certain Deeded Lots parcels of tax deeded property, the Mayor proceeded to offer same for sale to the highest bidder. Lots 5)6o7,& The Clerk read bid of P. L. Wood in the amount of $500.00 for Lots 5, $ , B lk. 403 VDM. 6, 7 and 9 in Block 403, Vista Del Mar tract; also bid of Mark Forrester in the amount of $540.00 for the same property. Also bid of J. K. McDonald in the amount of $750.00 for the same property. Bids from the audience Sold to Sam Clapp were as follows; Sam Clapp $925.00.. There being no higher bids, the prop- erty was declared sold to Sam Clapp. Portion of The Clerk read bid of Lyndon Wells in the amount of $165.00 for a Lots 1 & 2, Blk 601, portion of Lots 1 and 2 in Block 601, Vista Del Mar tract. The Mayor VDM submitted the property for bids from the audience. Numerous bids were Sold to made, the last one being $221.50 by Cora B. Opsomer. This being the highest Cora Opsomer and last bid, the Mayor declared the property sold to Cora B. Opsomer. Portions of The Mayor offered portions of Lots- 2, 3 and 4, Redburn No. 2 tract, Lots 2,3 & 4, Redburn 2 for sale to the highest bidder. The Clerk read the bid of J. K. McDonald in the amount of $200.00. Thereafter numerous bids were received, the Sold to J.Klast being $341.00 by J. K. McDonald. There being no further bids, the McDonald • Mayor declared the property sold to J. K. McDonald. Portion of The Mayor offered a portion of Lots 19, 21 and 23, Block 504, for sale Lots 1Z,21 & 23 B1k.50 to the highest bidder. The Clerk read bid of Carl S. Evanson in the amount of $200.00. Various bids were made from the floor, the last of which being Sold to $2�5.00 by Lyndon Wells. There being no other bids, the Mayor declared the Lyndon Wells property sold to Lyndon Wells, Frank Grebe On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the recommendations of City s employed to serve Attorney Overacker to employ Frank Grebe of Los Angeles to make services in papers connection with the sale of tax deed lots was approved and the employment .r authorized at the regular or customary rate for such services. Calif .Water The Clerk read a letter from the Southern California Water Company Co. -contract suggesting the continuation of a certain contract entered into between the City and the water company as of February 17, 1941 and terminating February 17, 1944. It is proposed that the above named contract be continued until June 30, 19U. The matter was referred to the City Attorney and City Council to consider and act upon at the next meeting. Senate Bill #941 Chamber of Commerce Secretary Wm. H. Gallienne addressed the Council relative to Senate Bill 941 authorizing purchase of certain beach front, and on motion by Grable seconded by Hawes, the Clerk and Mayor were authorized to send a telegram to the Governor urging his support to the Bill. , Garden Club President of the Garden Club Hudson asked to have the platform on • the beach moved to within 16 feet of the concrete steps and to have the sand between the concrete steps and the platform covered for use of the band, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the request was granted and referred to the engineer to proceed with the work. Public Address Mr. Henry., caretaker of the Pav-A-Lon, informed the Council that the system at Pav-A-Lon public address system needs repairs, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee, with power to have the work done. kgreement - The Clerk read an agreement dated June 15, 1945, between the City 1-rs. Francis of Huntington Beach and Madge Battie Francis and Frances St. John covering lease on a certain Tee"ofathe Municipal Pier from the 15th day of June, 1945, to the 15th day of October, 1945, mental $30.00 per month, payable in advance, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the Mayor and Clerk were authorized to execute the agreement. Lgreement - The Clerk read Agreement dated June 18, 1945, between the City of % H. Long Huntington Beach and Thayne H. Long covering live bait concession on the outer end of the pier for a period of three years beginning the l8th day of June 1945, and ending on the 17th day of June, 1948, at a rental • of $100.00 per year payable quarterly in advance, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute • same. )rd.#486 The Clerk.gead Ordinance No. 496, regulating the presence of minors Lst Reading on the public streets between the hours of 10:00 P.M. and 5:00 A. This being the first reading no action was taken by the Council. teso.#967 - The Clerk read Resolution No. 967 authorizing expenditure of money for tepairs on iisposal plant repairs of the sewage disposal plant, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, Resolution No. 967 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert, R NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. employees -etirement The Clerk informed the Council that he had received a report from the actuaries covering proposed employees' retirement fund. Janitor for The City Council approved the employment of the following; R. M. Pav-A-Lon Henry, $10.00 per night for janitor service following dances at the Pav-A-Lon. W. I. Rudd, 65¢ per hour as part time laborer on the golf course; George S. Lockwood, 90¢ per hour as part time laborer at the .golf course. Fire Ins. The Clerk informed the Council that C. H. King was investigating on Pier the matter of fire insurance covering the pier and had submitted a • ' tentative estimate of $800.00 per year for fire insurance. The matter was taken under advisement. Cafe at end The matter -of leasing the cafe at the outer end of the pier was re - of pier (erred to the Beach and Pier committee for their consideration. ' 17th St. On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the Council voted not to allow park anyone to operate or occupy a trailer on 17th Street park.
