Pursuant to adjournment of August 6th, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M- by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. Councilmen absent: None. Ballot - This being the date set for canvassing the ballot of the city Retirement _f System employees desiring to be included in the State Employees' Retire - went System, the Clerk presented the ballot `.:to the City Council. • .whereupon a canvass was made and the following resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council: Resolution "RESOLUTION NO. 973 all No. 973 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, CANVASSING THE RE- TURNS OF EMPLOYEES' ELECTION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE STATE RETIREMENT ACT. WHEREAS,,The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, Calif- ornia, did on the 6th day of August, 1945, regularly and duly pass and adopt Resolution No. 970, entitled "A Resolution of.the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, of Intention to Approve .Contract Providing for Participation in State Employees' Retirement System", and WHEREAS, an election is to be conducted among the firemen, the policemen and other City employees in accordance with the Retirement Act, and the .City Council of the City of Huntington Beach ordered said election held on -Monday, the 13th day of August, 1945.. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, do .resolve, declare and determine as follows: Section 1:. That the total persons entitled to vote in the respect- ive divisions of employees are as follows: Firemen 7 Policemen 9 Other employees 36 Section 2 That the whole number of votes cast by said employees • at said election are respectively as follows: Firemen 7 • Policemen 9 Other employees 36 Section 3: That the proposition voted upon at said election was as follows: "Shall the above designated employees of the subdivision named above,, be included in the State Employees' Retirement System?" ABSENT: Councilmen: None, Ordo#487 The Clerk gave first reading to Ordinance No. 487, an ordinance of the City of Huntington Beach authorizing a contract between the City of Huntington Beach and the Board of Administration, California State Employees° Retirement System, providing for the participation of said subdivision in said State Employees' Retirement System, making its, employees members of said system.;=._ w , Map o Engineer Overmyer presented a map of subdivision tract No. 10940, subdivision - Tract #1094 covering parts of Blocks 411, 511 and 512, Huntington Beach 17th Street Section. Whereupon -the following motion was made by Councilman Henrick- son: "That the. City. Council approve said map and accept same on behalf of the public and accept the offer of dedication of 12th Street and Magnolia Avenue as public highways and for public use the alleys shown thereon and that the City Clerk and City Engineer be authorized to sign the affidavits on said maps." Motion seconded by Bartlett, put and carried unanimously. Demand On motion by Bartlett seconded by arable, demand approved by the Finance Committee was ordered paid. ... 4 -1 3 Page' #3 Minutes August 13, 1945 Request for Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, Wm. H. Gallienne, and Mr. fireworks Hudson addressed the Council and stated that a number of requests had been had for the Fair Committee to stage a. V®J Day celebration by shooting fireworks and asked if the City Council cared to. appropriate $1,000.00 for the request. No.action by the City Council, Application On motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the application of Kenneth Bldg.Contr. F. Casey for building and painting contractor's. license was approved. Agreement The Clerk presented and read "WAR EMERGENCY RADIO SERVICE =, INTERMUNICIPAL AGREEMENT" between.the City of Long Beach and the City of Huntington Beach, and on motion by .Grable seconded by Henrickson, the Mayor was authorized to execute same on behalf of the City. Dishes The Clerk informed the Council that there had been a great loss Memo. Hall in dishes and cooking utensils in the Memorial -Hall, some due to breakage but the greater part due to theft apparently by those.using the -kitchen -from -time to time, and that it will cost approximately $850.00 to replenish same, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrick- son, the Clerk was authorized to spend not to exceed $950.00 in the .purchase of dishes and kitchen ware. Taxi Cabe Dr. Hawes stated that he had been informed that the City might be -liable in not providing an ordinance regulating taxi cabs within the City. The matter was referred to the City Attorney and the City Clerk to investigate and report back to the City Council. Insurance The Clerk informed the Council that both automobile insurance policy and general liability policy expires during the early part of September, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett,'the Clerk was authorized to ask for quotations on a compensation policy covering both automobile and general liability for a period of three years. Same to be submitted by the agents to the City Clerk on or before August 30, 1945. Petition to have The Clerk read petition signed by.Joe Hamann and others asking trees removed that three trees, euc4lyptus, be removed along lath Street parking in the 700 block, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Grable, the City Engineer was authorized to advise the petitioners that trees may be removed provided the petitioners pay one-half the cost of removal and replace- ment of other trees, all work to be under the supervision of the City Engineer.
