M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Henrickson, Bartlett, Talbert. Councilmen:absent: Grable and Hawes.. (Councilman Hawes arrived at 9 o'clock P.M.) F. P. Tucker- The Clerk read a letter from Engineer Overmyer recommending that F. P. Tucker, laborer, be placed on the regular monthly payroll at $175.00 per month, effective November 15, 1945, and,on motion by • Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, same was approved. Vomans Club A letter from the Womans Club asking the City to do paving in the rear of the club house was referred to the City Engineer for In- vestigation and report. Bid on Lots 9=11m The Clerk read bid of Harry B. DeLong in the amount of $510.00 17 & 19, Blk 315 for Lots 9, 11, 17 and.19 in,.Block 315. A check for $50.00 accompanied DeLong the bid. The bid was ordered filed for future reference and until the lots can be cleared. Crank Bros. Roofing On motion by Bartlett seconded by Henrickson, the application co" of Crank Bros. Roofing Company for license to engage in the roofing business was approved. Eagle Oil & Ref.Co, - On motion by Bartlett,seconded by Henrickson, the application of Well #9-� T Eagle Oil and Refining Company to drill Golden Eagle well No. 9 on the north side of Memphis Street was approved. 437 • . NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: .Grable, Hawes. Councilman Hawes arrives At this time, go°clock P.M,., Councilman Hawes arrived. Dogs The Clerk read a letter from Richard F. Martin complaining of �}r the dog nuisance. Same was ordered filed. C. of C. Christ- The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce asking for -an mas decorations appropriation of:300.00 to be used for Christmas decoratlnnscron the streets, and on motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes, the amount was allowed. Planning Eng.R.D. The Clerk read a letter from the.Chamber.of Commerce relative to Cornell retaining.Ralph D. Cornell, planning engineer, for the purpose of properly planning the beach frontage, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the matter was taken under advisement by the City Council. Ord. #491*- The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 491, abandoning a portion of Olive Olive Ave. Avenue, its second and final reading, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, Ordinance No. 491 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Henrickson, Hawes, Bartlett, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen-. None ABSENT: Councilmen Grable. Ord..#492 o The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 492, regulating taxicabs, its first lst reading reading. Ajax Amusement The Clerk read a letter from the Ajax Amusement Company, 402 Jergin Trust Co. Building, Long Beach, relative to leasing the lower part of the Pav-A-Lon Pav-A-Lon building. The letter was ordered filed until meeting of December 3rd and the Clerk directed to write Mr. G.W.Tubbs and suggest that he meet with the • Council at that time and make his offer for the use of the building., Demands On motion by Bartlett seconded by Hawes,^demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Boat landing m The Clerk read a letter from Donald Patterson relative to operating Mr.Patterson boats off the municipal pier. Briefly the letter stated that the applicant would install and pay for a boat landing at the end of the pier at an w estimate of $2,200.00, same to be deducted from rentals.:: paid the city. I. To pay to the City monthly 5% of the gross sales from boat or barge tickets up to.-$25,000, over $25,000 to pay 7J% with a -gua.rantee that said percentage would not be less than $1000.00 per year. The applicant asked for an ex- clusive franchise'for a period of five years. Page #3 Minutes Nov.19fl1945 Mr', Dant- o ' , The Clerk read a letter from Orville W. Dant, 320 Third Street, Boat landing Huntington Beach, in which Mro Dant made the following proposal: to construct at his own expense at the outer end of the municipal pier and maintain in good condition a boat landing capable of being K.T. Dant ° s- proposal accepted V raised and lowered mechanically with the tide and being raised to avoid any wave action by the water when necessary. Construction to be installed during the month of May and remove at the close of the season s.o as to avoid any danger of winter storms; all the foregoing to be at the expense of the applicant. .To furnish all types of .insurance to be required by. the City'Council. To paytheCity 4� with a guaranteed minimum of $200.00 per month.May 1, 1946 to Oct= ober 31, 1946, 5% with the guaranteed minimum of $250.00 per month May 1, 1947 to October 31, 1947, 6% with a guaranteed minimum of $300.00 per month May 1, 1948 to October 31, 1949., 7% with a guaranteed minimum of $350.00 per month May 1, 1949 to October 31, 1949, S% with a guaranteed minimum of $400.00 per month May 1, 1950 to October 31, 1950. The applicant asks for exclusive rights. On motion by Bartlett seconded by Henrickson, the proposal of Orville W. Dant was accepted and the.City Attorney authorized to prepare contract. Dogs Chief of Police.Blossom stated that he had talked to the -County. authorities relative to assisting the city in controlling dogs and he was advised that the County was not interested -as they had about Parking meters Trailer Park Vern Wentworth vacation pay twelve thousand of their own to look after in the County, Councilman Bartlett stated that a.number of business men were in favor of installing parking meters, and on motion by Henrickm - son seconded by Bartlett, the councilmen voted to meet with parking meter distributors with a view of installing meters on Ocean Avenue between Third and Fifth, on Walnut .Avenue between Third and Fifth and on Main Street between Ocean Avenue and Olive Avenue. Engineer Overmyer presented and explained plans for improvement of the trailer park. No action was taken by the Council. ,On motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, and upon recommendation of City Engineer Overmyer, permission was granted Vern Wentworth to waive.vacation and receive regular pay for the two weeks time in addition to monthly salary.
