Council Chamber, City Hall,

Monday, December 17, 1945
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P. M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Henrickson, Grable, Bartlett, Talbert.
Councilmen absent: Hawes (Councilman Hawes arrived at-7:45 P.M.)
Golf Angelo B.-Mollica addressed the Council relative to leasing the
Course
golf course, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Bartlett, the City
.Attorney was authorized to prepare a lease -agreement between the City of
Huntington Beach and Angelo B. Mollica for a period of three years beo
• ginning December 10, 1945, and subject to that certain agreement between
the Huntington Beach Company and the City of Huntington Beach, dated the
lst day of October, 1944.

Terms of the agreement.to be as follows: The City to turn over to
Mr. Mollica for his free use o ,
1 Men's golf shop building containing two sets of 10 metal lockers.
1 Showcase
3 Pieces of used furniture.
1 Ladies' club room building and small store room attached.
1 Greens mower
1 Five gng fairway mower, Commonwealth.
400 ft. 3inch hose.
1 Set pipe dies.
1 .Pipe vice, chain type.
1 Ford chassis
1 Fertilizer spreader
Y Mr. Mollica to pay the City $50.00 per month plus 25% of all playing fees
and to stand all the expense of maintenance and upkeep of the course. Mr.
Mollica to have the exclusive right to sell golf supplies and golf merchan-
dise on the premises.
Applications: Tunstall On motion by Henrickson seconded by Grable, the application of Ben
Tunstall to conduct the business of selling Christmas trees at 514 Ocean
Avenue was approved.

Maloch_for license to engage in the business of plastering was approved.
The Clerk read claim for refund of taxes by the Security -First
National Bank of Los Angeles. The communication was ordered filed.
At this time 7:45 P.M., Councilman Hawes arrived.
On motion.by Bartlett.seconded by Henrickson, the request 'of 'the
Chamber of Commerce for $150.00 to be used to defray expense of a community
Christmas musicale December 16th was approved.
Upon recommendation of the Chamber of Commerce and on motion by
Bartlett seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was directed to install
and put into.working order the Neon sign on Highway 39 at Five Points.

The bid of Glenn A. Cook and.Sophia Cook of $350.00 for Lots 1�&

2. Block 1103, Vista Del Mar`Tract.and Lots 2 and South i of 3 in
Block 1201, Vista Del Mar Tract, was read and ordered filed.
Demands
On motion by Bartlett" seconded by Grable, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Executive
The City Council agreed to meet in executive session Friday,

January 4th at 7:30 P.M. to review the salary ordinance.
Special officer
- On motion by Henrickson seconded by Hawes, the Chief of Police
was authorized to employ special officer to take care of the Christmas
decorations in the vicinity of the Pav-A-Lon for a period ending
approximately January 2nd.

Engineer Overmyer submitted Affidavit of Posting Notice in

accordance with provisions of Ordinance No. 491. Whereupon the Mayor
asked if anyone in the audience had any objections. There being none,
the Clerk informed the Mayor that no written or verbal objections had

been received, and on motion by Hawes seconded by Bartlett, the City
Attorney was authorized to prepare an order vacating a portion of Olive

Avenue.
Parking meters
A number of representatives addressed the Council concerning
their various parking meters, and on motion by Hawes.seconded by Grable, .
the matter was taken under advisement until January 7th.

The Council discussed the matter of leasing the lower floor of the

Pav-A-Lon for concessions and on motion by Henrickson seconded.by Bartlett,
the Council voted unanimously to accept the offer of the Ajax Amusement
Company, Frahk M. Linnell, at the rate of $100.00 per month guaranteed
minimum rental plus 5% on all sums taken in during anyone month over
$2,000.00. The City Attorney was authorized to prepare a contract agreement.

On motion by Hawes seconded by Henrickson, City Clerk C.R.Furr was
granted a ten days vacation beginning Friday,_December.20th.

Mrs. St. John, now operating a concession on the municipal pier,

asked the Council when she might be given a lease contract. She was in-
formed that the place she how holds had been previously promised to Mr. �-
Tipton and that as soon as the Council could make arrangements for a life
guard building she could have their place.

Mayor were authorized to secure the two government buildings on the end of
the pier and convert same into a temporary life guard station.
complaint Oil Mrs. W. J. Jenkins, 320 - 14th Street, and Mr. Burkhart addressed

15th Street near theirs and other residence property. That same was a fire
hazard and that smoke and offensive.odore came from the plant and that the
