HomeMy WebLinkAbout1947-02-070 / 611 1 1 1 1 MINUTES Council Chamber, -City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Friday, February 7, 1947 Pursuant to'adjournment of February 3, 1947, the City Council met and was called to order -at 7:30 P.I. by Mayor Bartlett. 'Councilmen present: Grable, Terry, Langenbeck, Bartlett. ` Councilmen absent: Hawes. Applications On motion by Grable seconded by Langenbeck, the application of Wm. &uto steam cleaning. E. McDonald, Rt.#3, Box 370, Santa Ana, for license to conduct auto steam Cleaning at 520 Ocean Avenue, was approved, Mattress On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, the application of Paul renovating A. Shockley, 229 - 8th Street, Seal Beach, for license to conduct the business of renovating mattresses and upholstering at 522 Main Street, was approved. Real Estate On motion by Grable seconded.by Terry, the application of Carlos J. salesman Reeves, Sr. for license to act as real estate salesman at 219 Main Street was approved. Wt curb On motion by Terry, seconded by Langenbeck, the application of.Chas. Mashburn to cut curb at 503 - 13th Street was approved. Chairs for The Clerk informed the Council that the City was in need of at least Memo. Hall one hundred chairs in the Memorial Hall. After inspecting an all metal chair supplied by R.M. Jurkovich and on motion by Grable seconded by Langenbeck, the City Clerk was authorized to purchase one hundred chairs at a cost not to ekeeed $4.50 each. Copies of The Clerk informed the Council that it will be advisable to have deeds & con- tracts copies made either by typewriter or by photostatic or both of important city documents, especially all deeds and important contracts and asked permission to order the photostatic work done on those documents where photostatic equipment can be used and to employ a typist to copy other documents, and on motion by Langenbeck seconded by Grable, the;Clerk was authorized to spend not to exceed three hundred dollars for the above named work. Petition The Clerk informed the;Council that the Huntington Beach Planning for mditional excep on. Commission, at a meeting held February 4,'1947', held a hearing to consider the petition for conditional exception presented by Fred C. Hermann, 409 - Hermann 15th Street, that the exception applied for was to construct a four unit coart with the northeasterly wall within three feet of the southeasterly line of Lot 10, Block 414, and to extend the structure to within two feet of the sidewalk on 14th Street. That in considering the application, the Planning Commission had in contemplation the extension of R-4 District to the first -alley westerly from 17th Street and from Ocean Avenue to Palm Avenue. Therefore, by unanimous consent, the Commission recommended the approval of the above named petition, and on motion by Grable seconded by Langenbeck, the appli- L cation was approved and the building inspector authorized to issue permit. 612 Page #2, Minutes, February 79 1947 17th Street On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Grable, the family now Park occupying ground on 17th Street park with a trailer be notified to move off the premises for the reason that the City plans con- verting the grounds'into a park to be used by various city organi- zations* , Boy Scout Mayor Bartlett stated 'that the Huntington Beach Casting cabiYlo ' Club wished to use the Boy Scout cabin for•Sunday morning break- fast; that they agreed to enlarge and repair the kitchen at their own expense. The matter was referred to Mayor Bartlett to contact the Boy Scout Leaders and get their_permission. Memorial On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, permission was Hall Febo28th granted the Orange Empire Council of Boy Scouts to use Memorial Hall on the evening of February 29th for dinner and meeting at the price of $15.00 for use of the hall. Highway strips dedicated. Resod No. 1014 Engineer Overmyer explained to the Council how and when the'City had dedicated certain strips of land along Ocean Avenue for,., State, highway purposes, including a 20 foot strip on Highway 39 near the intersection of Highway 39 and Ocean Avenue. The Clerk presented and read Resolution No.1014, a resolu- tion of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, determining and declaring that public interest and necessity re- quired the acquisition of certain property for street purposecs, described as follows: "A strip of land 10 feet in width adjoining and southerly from Ocean Avenue and lying between the westerly line of 'A' Street and the easterly City limits" and, on motion by Langenbeck seconded by Grable, Resolution No. 1014 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES:. Councilmen: Grable, Terry, Langenbeck, Bartlett. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: Hawes.
