MINUTES
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, California
Monday, July 14, 1941
Pursuant to adjournment of Monday, July 7, 1947, the City Council
met and was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Mayor Bartlett.
Councilmen present: Grable, Terry, Bartlett. (Councilman Hawes arrived
at 7:30 P.M.)
Councilmen absent: Langenbeckp '
Finance Comm. Mayor Bartlett appointed Grable and Terry as the Finance Committee
to examine and approve the demands presented'.
Hro.Colvin The Clerk presented and read the applieation'of Jack Colvin to
application. conduct trailer park at 119 Tenth Street. Deputy Health Officer Fred
deferred.
King reported that the approval of this application depended upon the
installation of a sanitary drain, and on motion by Grable seconded by
Terry, the application was deferred for further action until the next
regular meeting of the Council.
applications On motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the following applications
for lic ease.
Approved° for license were approved:
Ke=y Contracting -Company, I -no., R.W. Goldsmith, Field Sup8t., Box 356,
Santa Fe Springs, California, to conduct the business of general
contracting.
James Hensley, 1020 Huntington Avenue, Huntington Beach, to peddle
packaged ice cream from house to house.
Power Unit Service, Claude Foulk, 302-9 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach,
to conduct the business of servicing oil wells.
H.L. Kline, P.O. Box 267, Huntington Beach; to conduct the business of
selling Watkins products°--
R.J. Baker, 1990 Harbor Avenue, Long Beach, California, to conduct the
business of servicing oil wells located in Huntington Beach.
Paul S. Mallonee, 223* Main Street, to conduct the business of selling
merchandise.
H. Isley, 542 Aliso, Newport Beach, California, to conduct the business
of,electrieal contractor.
R.S. Roher, to conduct hotel at 106 Ocean Avenue, Huntington Beach, Calif.
W.L. Diehl R#l, Box 109, Huntington Beath, to -conduct the business of
painting contractor at 2141 Hampshire Avenue.
Permit for On motion by Grable seconded by.Terry, the application of the
oil well West Amer.West American Oil Company to drill new well on lots 19, 20 and 22, Block
Oil Co. 420, 17th Street Seetion,•was approved.
Morton & On motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the application of Morton
Kohlbush and Kohlbush to drill new well on Lots 25 and 27, Block 519,-Seventeenth
Street Section, was approved.
Pacific On motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the application for oil well,
Western Oil
Corp. permit of Pacific Western Oil Corporation to drill new well on Lots 19
and 20, Block 620, Seventeenth Street Section, was approved.

Oil ,Well, On motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the application for
permit -
Pr sident oil well permit of the President Oil Company to drill new well on
01� Co.
Lots 6 and S. Block 419, Seventeenth Street Section, was approved
subject to filing of oil Field Asap.
Morton & On.motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the application of Morton
Kohlbush
and Kohlbush for oil well permit to drill new well on Lots 22 and 24,
Block ,620, Seventeenth Street _.Section, was approved subbet to filing of
oil field map.,
Fire Dept. The Clerk read letter addressed to the Honorable Mayor and City
Council as follows:
"In order to complete the number of men needed 6n this department
to work the forty hour week, it will be necessary to put on three more
men. Twoof these men have been working vacations, but will be through
With them on the fifteenth of July.
I have hired three men for this job that I feel will be satis-
factory, and atthi.s time ask that the Council approve the following:
G.W. Barrows, R.A. Brown and J.E. Gelvin.
Their salary'olbasification would be "B" for their six months
probation period.

and, on motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the request was approved.
Dr.. Hawes arrived at,this. time, 7:30 P.M.
Demands On motion by Grable seconded by Terry, demands presented
for payment by the Finance Committee were approved.

Heater.

The City Clerk reported to the Council that the water heater,
located on the ground floor of the'City Hall had sprung a bad leak
and the Huntington Beach Plulabing Company was called in to examine the
heater for condition and they reported the heater was old and repairs
of the heater would not rectify the condition and suggested that a
new heater be purchased, and on motion by Grable seconded b�F Terry,
the City Clerk was instructed to purchase a new Day and Night heater
subject to the quotation of $116.00 plus tax.
At this time, 7:30 P,.3R., the Mayor recessed the Council to set
as a Board of Equalization.
The Council was again called to order at- 9:30 P.M -
On motion by Grable seconded by Terry, the Council adjourned.
