The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P.M. by Mayor Bartlett.
Councilmen present: Greer, Langenbeck, Bartlett.
Councilman Hawes arrived at 7:35 P.I.
Councilman Terry arrived at 7: P.M.
Councilmen absent: None.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the following appli-
cations to conduct business.were approved:,
J. A. Billingsley, 725 So. Garnsey, Santa Ana, to conduct cafe at
412 Walnut Avenue.
Union Sign Company, 1139 So. Shelton, Santa Ana, to conduct the business
of sign painting.
Thomas W. Smedley; 609 Delaware Huntington Beach, to conduct the business
of Pressing and Tailor Shop at 624 Main Street.
John S. Miller, 522 Main Street, to conduct the business of renovating
and upholstering furniture at 522 Main Street.
At this time, 7:35 P. M. Councilman Hawes arrived.
Velva Doan Kiley, R#2, Box 415A-, Costa Mesa, California, to conduct the
business of florist at 624Main Street.
Dale L. Kersh, Sea Breeze Trailer Court, to conduct the business of
sign painting.
Santa Fe Drilling Company, P. 0. Box 415, Santa Fe Springs, to conduct the
business of contracting oil well drilling.

Kenneth F. Casey, 320 Third Street, to conduct the business of cabinet
shop in the 2200 Block on Hampshire Avenue.
Duke Codee of Compton, California, appeared before the Council and
outlined a dancing program for the youth and elders of the City and re-
quested the use of Memorial Hall. Mr. Codee was referred to Dante Siracusa,_
chairman of the Youth Council.
At this time, 7:45 P.M. Councilman Terry arrived.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the application of J. B.
Nelson to drill new well on Lots 26 and 29, Block 613, 17th Street Section,
was approved subject to filing of bond and map satisfactory to the city
attorney and city engineer.
Quartette Oil On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, the application of
Drill 16-19-20
Blk 615 Quartette Oil Company to drill new well on Lots 16, 19 and 20, Block
615, was approved subject to the filing of bond and map satisfactory to
the city attorney and the city engineer.
Official car On motion by Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, that the invitation of
in Armistice
Day parade the Orange County Armistice Celebration Committee to enter an open dec-
orated car for city officials was approved and Wm.Galllenne, secretary -
treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce was directed to arrange for the
entry.

Bond The Clerk read communication from the Southwest Exploration
Company requesting permission to acquire either;
"(1) A blanket bond designed to meet this new requirement
land at the same time relieve both the'City of Hunting-
ton Beach and this Company from excessive paper work; or,
(2) A single blanket bond sufficient to meet previous
bond requirements as well as new bond requirements
(Ordinance No. 515) pertaining to,the drilling or
redrilling of an oil well:"
Motion made by Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, that the request be re -
(erred to the city attorney for drafting of an ordinance, was approved.
State J-42 On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the application -of
Southwest Exploration Company to drill new well known as "State" J-42
was approved, subject to the filing of satisfactory clean-up bond as
required by Ordinance No- 515.
State 'J-33 On motion by Hawes seconded by Terry, the application of the
Southwest Exploration Company to drill new well known as "State" J-33
was approved subject to filing of satisfactory clean-up bond as re-
quired by Ordinance No. 515,
State J-43 On motion by Hawes seconded by Terry, the application of the
Southwest Exploration Company to drill new well to be known as "State" J-43
was approved subject to filing of satisfactory -clean-up bond as required
by Ordinance No- 515-
State J-36 On motion by -Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, the application of South-
west Exploration Company to drill new well known as "State" J-36 was approved

Mr. Popovich On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes, the request of J. E.
Extension of
time Popovich, general contractor, for an extension of 25 working days to
complete the contract,for the construction of storm drains, without
penalty, was approved.
Proposals to The Clerk read the proposals of Sven Harberg of 419 West Center
paint bldge.
Street, Anaheim, and the Pacific Weather -Seal Company of 20802 South
Normandy, Los Angeles, California, for the painting of Memorial Hall
and the City Hall exteriors. The amount of Sven Harberg°s bid was
- $2,742.00. and the Pacific Weather -Seal Company $2, 335.9.7, and on motion
by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, that the contract be awarded to the
Pacific Weather -Seal Company, Inc. for the price contained in their
proposal and subject to further checking and adjustment by the City
Engineer, was approved,

the City of Huntington Beach establishing the general prevailing rate of
per diem wages for each craft or type of workman or mechanic needed in the

construction of two toilet buildings in the municipal trailer park in the
City of Huntington Beach,California. The Mayor asked City Engineer Overmyer

the municipal trailer park, City of Huntington Beach, to be published in
the Huntington Beach News on October 23d and 30th. Bids to be opened and
examined on Monday, November 17, 1947, at 9:00 o'clock P.M. in'the Council
Chamber in the City Hall of the City of Huntington Beach, was approved.
Mr. Chalmers — The Clerk read a letter received from George G. Chalmers,.526 Crest
curb
Avenue, requesting that 50 feet of curb 'be replaced on the Crest Avenue
G side of his property. The Mayor referred the matter to,the Streets and
Parks Committee.
Mr. Hodak On motion by Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, the request of Bart N. Hodak
driveway of 100 Frankfort.Street to cut the curb for driveway purposes a distance of
25 feet, was approved subject to the supervision of the City Engineer.
Mr. Lewis On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes, the request of Joe Lewis,
629 Tenth Street, Corona, to cut curb at 211 Alabama, Huntington Beach, was
approved subject to the supervision of the city engineer.
Mr. Bal]eww The Clerk read a letter received from Floyd Ballew, president of.the
Orange County Coast Golf Association, commending the City of Huntington
Beach for its proposed activities in enlarging the -.present municipal golf
course. The letter was ordered filed.
Memo.Hall On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes,'the request of Del Burry,
Armistice general chairman of the Orange County Armistice Celebration, to reserve the

The Clerk read a letter received from B. J. Smith, County Clerk

The Clerk read letter received from the Huntington Beach Chamber
of Commerce in which the Board of Directors of that Chamber wished to
compliment the Huntington Beach City Council in their appointment of
Colonel Jack Greer to fill the vacancy of Fred T. Grable, Councilman,
deceased. The letter was ordered filed,

The Clerk read letter received -from R. L. Davis submitting his.

resignation from the Huntington Beach,Planning Commission as of November
1, 1947, as his employer, the Texas Company, was transferring him to
Coalinga, California. On motion by Hawes seconded by Greer, the City
Clerk was instructed to write a letter of acceptance and appreciation
for his services on the Commission, the motion was approved.
