Monday, 5:30 P.M., Dec.8, '1947
Pursuant to adjournment of Monday, December 1, 19470 the City
Council met and was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Mayor Bartlett.
Councilmen present: Terry, Langenbeck, Bartlett.
Councilmen absent: Greer and Hawes. (Councilman Greer arrived at 5:1W P.M.)
Councilman Hawes arrived at 5:45 P.M.)
Mayor Bartlett appointed Councilman Terry to serve on the Finance
Committee in lieu of Councilman,Hawes who was absent.
Councilman Terry • At this time, 5: 40 P.M., Councilman Terry arrived.

The Clerk read the monthly report of the City Engineer, and on
Monthly report-
Eng. motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, the report was accepted and
ordered filed as read.
Applicationso On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, the following appli-
cations for business license were approvede
John'W. Davis, 413 California Street, Huntington Beach, to
conduct the business of auto repairing at 604 Ocean Avenue.
Raymond John Hulbert, 934 - llth Street, Huntington Beach,
to sell Christmas trees on vacant lot at 512 Ocean Avenue.
Amon C. West, 2607 Central Street, Newport Beach, California,
to conduct the business of plumbing contractor.
Surety bond On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, the surety bond
of Amon C. West plumber, 2607 Central Street, Newport Beach, was
accepted and ordered filed.

At this time, 5:45 P.M., Councilman Hawes arrived.

Mr. Popovich - The Clerk read letter from J: E."Popovich requesting that he be

relieved of the responsibility of replacing the sidewalk on Ocean

ion started. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, that replacing
of broken sidewalks be waived as concurred in by investigation of the
City Engineer and the Streets and Parks Committee, was approved.
Storm'drain The Clerk read letter from the City Engineer in which he reported
that J. E. Popovich had completed his contract for the construction of the
storm drain and,its appurtenances on Ocean Avenue,be*wsea-Sixteenth,asd

in accordance with the plans, profiles and specifieati
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry: "That the storm
drain as reported completed be accepted", was approved. The Clerk
was 'instructed to file notice of completion.
This being the -date set for the opening of sealed bids for
the moving and reconstruction of building known as War Assets building
T-1099, notice inviting sealed bids was published in the Huntington
Beach News on November 27, 1947. The Mayor asked the Clerk to open and _
read the bids received. The following bids were received and reads
Star-Housemovers, Inc. 1325 Pico Avenue, Long Beach;
California, bid m $17 400.00 and filed cashier's check
in the amount of 1,740.00 to cover bidder's bond.
Mills Bros. Construction Company, R#2, Box 19, Anaheim,
California, bid o $14,052.00. Bid was accompanied by
bidder's bond in the amount of 1,500.00.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer,* "That bidWbe
referred to the City Engineer for further analysis and report,"
was approved.
Appeal
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes: "That the Mayor and
City Attorney be authorized to sign and file application for an appeal
from the ruling of ,the U. S. Department -of Interior in the City's
application for oil and gas lease heretofore filed," was approved.
Curbs & utters—
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes: "That the City
east side
Engineer.be authorized to prepare plans and estimates for the curbs
and gutters on the east side as outlined by the Streets and Parks
Committee," was approved.
Lease for Mrs.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes: "That the City
Westmoreland
Attorney be instructed to prepare a new lease between Mrs. Beulah
Westmoreland and the City of Huntington Beach for the concession `
building located at the municipal trailer camp, said lease to run
for three years starting January 1, 1948, and the lessee to construct
the addition to the building in accordance with plans submitted, and
the City of Huntington Beach to paint the exterior of the building.
Lease rental -to be 3%'of gross income with a $30.00 a month minimum",
was approved.
Demands
On motion by Hawes seconded by Terry, the demands as approved
by the'Finance Committee were ordered paid.
