Friday, Jan. 23,1948 Pursuant to adjournment of January 19, 1948, the City Council.met and was called to order at 5:30 P. M. by Mayor Bartlett., Councilmen present: Hawes, Langenbeck, Bartlett. Councilmen absent: Greer, Terry. (Councilman Greer arrived at 5s45 P.M.) Curb & The Clerk read a letter from City Engineer Overmyer submitting gutter- 92nd St. estimate of cost for the construction of two (2) foot.concrete curb gutter on each curb line of 22nd Street from Ocean Avenue to Palm Avenue, Estimate on 9272 square feet concrete gutter at 50 cents per square foot, $4,636.00. The Clerk read bid proposals for -the construction of the concrete curb gutters, submitted by -the following contractors: Walter J. Markel, .43 cents per sq:, ft, P. &. H. Construction Co. .45 cents per sq. ft. Cox Bros. Construction Co. .41 cents per sq. ft. On motion by Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, that the bid proposal submitted by Walter J. Markel for the construction of the concrete curb gutters on r 22nd Street be accepted and the City Engineer be instructed to proceed with the work, was approved. Councilman At this time, 5:45 P.M., Councilman Greer arrived. Greer Arrives Beach Imp. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, that the preliminary plans for beach concession development west of the plunge be.transmitted to the Huntington Beach Company for examination that they may make suggestions for modification and changes or informal approval until final plans are prepared and presented, was approved. 762. Page #2 Minutes 1-23-49 • Mrs. Carter The Clerk read letter received from Mra.G. E. Carter requesting Georgia St. that the City repair Georgia Street as it is in very bad condition. Mayor Bartlett referred the -request to the Streets and Parks Committee. On motion by Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, that the request of Memorial Hall Ray Elliott, Huntington Beach Union High School Principal, for use of Memorial Hall for the Festival Band practices on March 3rd, 9th and lith, from 2 to 5 P.M. and charges waived, was approved._ Business On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, that the application for License license of Edward F. Arciero and Donald Joe Maples to conduct the business of Malt Shop at 509 Ocean Avenue, was approved. gl,s.nning On motion by Hawes seconded by Langenbeck, that the recommendation Commission - -of the Huntington Beach City Planning Commission to deny, the application CoildAtional for Conditional Exception filed by Perry Huddle for the construction of exception denied a garage, on the grounds that the request did not conform to the re- quirements of Section 24, Paragraph (E), of the Districting Ordinance, was approved. The Clerk read letter received from Charles R. Furr submitting Mr. Furr resigns from his resignation from the Planning Commission as he is living outside Planning Commission of Huntington Beach. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Hawes, that the letter of resignation submitted by Charles R. Furr be accepted and the Clerk be instructed to write a letter tb'Mr. Furr extending the appreciation of the City Council for the time and valuable service rendered the City and its residents.
